Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
THOMAS G. HOJER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT lN COMPOUNDS FOR FILLING THE PORES OF WOOD.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 221,308, dated November 4, 1879; application filed April 28, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS G. HOJER, of the city of New York, county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Compound for Filling up the Pores in Wood, which compound is fully described in the following specification.
' This inventionrelates to that class of compounds used to fill the pores in wood; and it consists in a composition formed by mixing together barytes, whiting, calcined plaster,
raw linseed-oil, and a liquid manganese drier,
pounds of raw linseedoil, and'seven pounds of liquid manganese drier composed of the ingredients hereinbefore named. Mix these ingredients all together and grind the composition through a stone mill. It is then made ready for use by thinning with spirits of turpentine or raw linseed-oil, or half oil and half turpentine, or as the nature of the work requires. lt is applied with a bristle brush, and when it becomes flat or its luster disappears, it should be rubbed with cotton cloth from the surface of the wood, and into the pores of the wood.
Its use and purpose are to fill up the pores in allkinds of wood, and thereby produce a solid and smooth surface upon which varnish or oil can be applied, and not be absorbed by the pores.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A compound for filling the pores of wood, consisting of barytes, Whiting, calcined plaster, raw linseed-oil, and liquid manganese drier, in the proportions substantially as specified.
, THOMAS G. HOJER.
