To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that we, J AGOB MUELLER land. PET. lV. VIEBOLDT, of Manitowoc, in the couutr of Manitowoc and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flyvand Mosquito Screens for Windows; and we do hereby declare that the fol- ,lowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, whichform a part of this specitication, and inwhich- Figure l is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation. Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section on line. a: fr, Fig'. 1, and Fig. 4 is aneularged perspective view of a portion of the up-V per screen and sash, with the bayonet-catch for locking it.
. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all theligures. Y
This invention has relation to adj ust-able fly and mosquito screens for window-sashes and it consists in the combination, with a window-frame and its sliding sash, of a hinged removable screen provided with a bayonet catch, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the drawings, A is a window-frame, and B B' the sashes, which are of the ordinary construction. O is the lower, andD is the upper, screen, each of which consists of two parts or sections, denoted by C C' and D D', respectively, hinged together at c o d d, oneof the hinged sections of each screen being' provided with a pin or lug, a a', which ts into a hole, b b', in the bottom ofthe rail of the sash next to it. rIhe top rail of the upper sash, B, has a project-in g catch or bail, e, and the lower part of the frame has a catch, f, while one of the hinged sections, D, of the upper screen is provided with a bayonet-catch, consisting of a rod, E, pivoted in staples -in the frame of the screen, having a loop or handle, g, at its middle part, and turned at both ends to form hooks h i, which, in turning the rod, engage with the upper and lower catches, ef, respectively. f
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, the operation of our improved adjustablev window-screen will readily be understood. It is made, of course, of all sizes, to lit different sized and shaped windows, the sides of the hinged sections f1ttiug into the grooves or ways in the frame in which thel sashes slide, so that, in case of storm, anychild can take out the screens and again replace them, when desired, the top section, D D', being putin first in adjusting the screens, and the reverse order followed in re-A moving them.
Having thus described our invention, we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The construction and combi-nation of the )window-frame A, having catch e, sliding sash B, provided with the catch or bail f, and
