1 Claim.
The invention relates to a cigarette dispenser and more particularly to a detachable dispenser for cigarettes adaptable for mounting on the instrument board'within a vehicle body, being convenient for thel delivery in single order of a cigarette into the hand oan operato-roi such dispenser, the undelivered cigarettes being conned so as to maintain kthefsame fresh and readily obtainable at will.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a dispenser of this character, wherein the same is readily clamped to the dash or inf strumentboard of avehicle, particularly a motor vehicle, and occupies the least possible space in that it is compact l'and will successfully deliver cigarettes singly to an operator of the device.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a dispenser of this character, wherein the same can be readily filled when attached in place to the instrument or dash board of a vehicle without requiring the complete dismounting of such dispenser. l
A further object of thel invention is theprovision of a dispenser of this character, which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and eiiicient in operation, neat in appearance, readily and easily operated, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects -in View, the invent consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement ofparts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment4 of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a topplan view of the dispenser constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional View taken on the line 3-3 of Figure'l looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a View similar to Figure 3 showing the dispenser with its dispensing gate or shutterl) in an adjusted position.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the dispenser constituting the present invention comprises a hanger body formed with a flat top ID,
- side ypanels or cheeksv II and laterally outstruck guides I2, respectively, the hanger body being open, front and back thereof, while at the rearmost edge of the top I is a channel-forming (o1. 31a-s4) f Y ange I3, which is a continuation of the guides rI 2 struck outwardly at the panels or cheeks I l.
Removably fittedin the hanger, body is a magazine-forming body Ill' having a straight vertical front wall. I5, side walls It and a relatively shallow vertical rear wall lfLrespectively. From this shallow v,wall I1 is extended a `forwardly inclined bottom IS, thefront wall I 5 being provided with an inwardly curved lower portion I9 which with the bottom I approach eachother for providing therebetween a dispensing space or slot 2 0 for theYdispensing of the contents of the dispenser in a .manner presently described.
Mounted for vertical swing at the opening or slot 2G is an eccentrically disposed gate or shutter formed with ya. hollow shell portion 2| provided with an overrun top area 22 formed with a depressed seatf'or pocket 23 nextto a directing lip 24, the gate or shutter being swingable upon a pivot 25 horizontally arranged and journaled in the side walls I6. The shell 2I carries within it an overbalancihg .weight 26 which urges the gate or shutter to closing position for the Contact' of the lip 24 with the curved lower portion I9. On contact of the lip 24 with this curved portion I9 of the front wall I5, the dispenser is closed, this being automatically brought about by the weight 26 within the shell portion ZI of vthe said gatev the lip 24 into the hand of an operator of the dispenser engaging the said shell portion 2l of the gate or shutter.
i The cigarettes within the magazine body I4 will be delivered or dispensed in single order in that the shell portion 2l turns in ak manner to shut 01T further dispensing of the cigarettes other than the single one within the pocket 23 when the shutter or gate is swung to opening position.
On the top It of the hanger body is a screw clamp 28 adapted for clamping engagement with a cowl or instrument board of a vehicle, par# ticularly a motor vehicle, a portion of the board being indicated at 29 and the clamping position of the dispenseris shown in detail at Figure 3 of the drawing. f
The magazine body I4 is separable from the hanger body in that the side walls I6 carry outturned guide anges .30 fitting, the guides I2 and the top Il) of the hanger body has an impression latching rib 3| which engages the back wall I1 when the magazine body is interfitted With the:
hanger body, thus frictionally latching these together yet the magazine body is readily pulled from within the hanger body, the uppermost portion of the said magazine body being open so that on removal thereof it can be filled with cigarettes.
The bottom I8 has the downwardly curved overhanging edge 32 with respect to the shell portion 2| of the gate or shutter effecting a close joint relationship` therebetween. The gate or` shutter-Lis shown in closed position in Figure 3 and in Figure 4 of the drawing in a dispensing position for effecting on the swing of the said gate or shutter the single dispensing or delivery of a cigarette from the dispenser.
When the magazine body is within the hanger body, the front wall I5 of the magazine body is disposed slightly inwardly or the marginal edge of the open front of said hanger body.
The magazine body at the back wall I1 has separable lip engagement at 33 with the channeled flange forming a continuation of the guides I2 at oppositesides of the hanger body.
The side walls I6 of the magazine body are extended downwardly to close the opposite ends of the pocket 23 throughout the movement of the shutter or gate. The cigarettes within the magazine body gravitate for single deposit within the pocket 23 so that on operating the gate or shutter a single delivery of the cigarette is assured While the lip 24 directs the delivering cigarette into the hand operating the shutter or gate, one hand only being required for the operation of the gate or shutter and with the palm of the hand uppermost the cigarette being delivered rolls into the hand during the dispensing operation.
The dispenser, while adaptable for use in a Vehicle, is also adaptable for use in connection with tables or other supports, as, for example, a card table or the like.
What is claimed is:
A dispenser for slender articles, comprising a body having a slotted substantially hopper shaped v bottom, a tubiformed dispensing gate swingable in the slot in the said bottom and forming a hollow for a weight, a'weight lXedly held and so disposed within the hollow in said gate as to normally urge the same in closing non-dispensing position, a lip extending from the gate for delivering an articlefrom'the body into the hands of an operator, the said gate being formed with a pocket next to the lip for reception of a single article from within the body when the gate is in non-dispensing position and adapted to deliver the single articlev onto the lip on the swinging of the' gate to a dispensing position from non-dispensing position, andv pivot ears formed on the gate for eccentric swingable mounting thereof on a horizontal axis, the gate being so constructed that in the non-dispensing position the slot in the bottom of the hopper is closed by the gate and its lip while in the dispensing position the slot is closed wholly by the body portion of the gate.
