UNITED STATES rATENT orrrcs ELECTRIC VAPORIZER Louis Jaroll, New York, N. Y.
Application August 26, 1937, Serial No. 161,070
1 Claim. (Cl. 21938) This invention relates to portable electric vabody and which is in circuit, through said sleeve porizers and has for its principal objects the 2| and the usual bottom contact screw (not DIOViSiOn O a Simple, cheap and eflicient conshown), with the terminals iii of said socket struction which is compact, of attractive appearmember I2. A disc 24 of mica or like insulation 5 ance and safe to handle when in operation. is interposed between said coil and the top flange 5 Other objects of the invention are hereinafter 25 of the shell 22. Said disc is preferably perset forth, forated to admit of the passage of heated air In the accompanying drawing in which I have currents from said coil directly to the bottom illustrated a preferred embodiment of my inof the receptacle. vention A metal deflector or hood member 30, of a 10 Figure 1 is a vertical section, partly in elevagenerally truncated cone-like configuration and tion, d having a circular top 3i is adapted to be sup- Fig. 2 is a plan view, partly broken away. ported by e flange 25 of s Shell Referring to the drawing and the construction A receptacle 32 for volatile liquid has the botshown therein the reference numeral desigtom 33 thereof Welded, or otherwise secured, to 16 nates a hollow base member preferably formed the top 3| of the deflector 30. of sheet metal, the same being contracted at To operate the vaporizer, when assembled and its upper end to form a heat-radiating deflector plugged into an electric circuit, the liquid such member 2. A transverse partition 3 of heat inas perfume, disinfectant or the like is flrst intro- 20 sulation material, as for example av phenolduced into the well or receptable 32. The switch 20 formaldehyde condensation product or porcelain I6 is then turned on to close the circuit through or the like is secured by bolts 4 to said base the heating element. If desired, the device may member. Said partition is provided with a cenbe q pp h a static t e S tral aperture 5 adapted to receive a union 8. A but otherwise it is desirable to periodically interskeleton frame I, having a hollow boss 3, is rupt t flow f urre t th u t heater 25 tapped to receive said union 5 whereby the same me'nt so that the temperature rise will not be is supported on said partition 3, the same being excessive yet will be suffieient to continually rigidly secured thereto by the looking nut 9 which vaporize t e q d in the receptacle Whe is threaded on the lower end of the union 6. g the liq i h n c p ly v p d h Said frame I is provided with opposing verswitch is turned 0 and the flow of current 30 tical supporting bars Ii! from which opposing through the heater element is interrupted. offset ears H are struck-up. Said bars are an- My i p ved v p rizer, p i l y f mpl y chored at their upper ends in the porcelain base With a thermostatic 01 like time SWitCh, is ideally ii! of an electric socket member of standard p ed fo us in omes, institutions, office 35 construction, the same having a threaded metal u s, f medicat on, d s ec deedOr- 35 s k t is t; it upper d izing and fumigating purposes and especially for A guard or sleeve M, of insulation material, fi v y disseminating perfumes, incense and such as fiber or cardboard is supported on said the like throughout t atmosphere Of a room 01 ears H, the same enveloping said socket member other be and effectively insulating the same. The socket Due o the disposition of the heat-radiating 40 has the 115113,} terminals I5 (only one being deflectors With respect to the heating element shown), to which are secured in the well known and the liquid receptacle, it is possible 0 e manner the circuit leads in one of which is interfeetilely utilize the heat from the heating posed a switch l5 and which leads extend ment without danger of the vaporizer becoming through a tubular cord or covering H to a knife too hot to handle when shifting the position of 45 or blade plug l8. the vaporizer to a different location in the same A resistance heater element or plug, also of or a diiferent room or to result in the vaporizer standard construction, such as the type used in becoming a fire hazard even should the same not electric cigar lighters, is mounted in the socket be equipped with a thermostatic cut-off switch I3. Said element comprises a body 253 of refracor time switch, 50 tory heat-insulating material having a threaded The construction of my vaporizer is extremely metal sleeve 2|, a protective metal shell 22,1atsimple and owing to the fact that it utilizes erally surrounding the upper portion of the body standard electric plugs and sockets, any part that 20, and a coil 23 of resistance wire, mounted in becomes worn out can be readily procured and a flat spiral groove formed on the top of said replaced without necessitating the return of the 55 device to the manufacturers or to a repairshop.
Various changes from the preferred construction herein illustrated may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention as embraced within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to obtain by United States Let'- ters Patent is:
In an electric vaporizer, the combination comprising a base member having a heat-deflecting shield at its upper end and a transverse, centrally perforated intermediate partition of insulation material, a threaded sleeve mounted in said partition, a-frame carried by said sleeve, a lock nut for rigidly securing said sleeve to said partition,
an electric socket mounted on saidframe, an insulation sleeve enveloping said socket, supporting means carried by said frame arranged to engage the bottom of said sleeve when the same is positioned on said socket, a resistance heatingelement removably mounted in said socket, a metal receptacle mounted on said resistance heating element, said receptacle having a flared, heat-deflecting shield depending therefrom, an electric circuit interconnecting said heating element and said socket when the two are in cooperative engagement and means for connecting said circuit to a source of electricity.
