Description

A rii 21, 1925 1,5343% L. WEIDLICH ELECTRIC PERFUMER Filed June 2'7, 1924 I INVENTOR. M 7 Louis Wet-dam \\\T'\ Patented Apr. 21, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT-OFFICE.
LOUIS WEIDLICH, OI STRATFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE WEIDLIOH BROS. MFG. 00., OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNEUIICU T, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
ELECTRIC ransom Application filed June 27, 1924. Serial No. 722,676.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that Loms VVEIDLICH, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Stratford, in the county of Fairfield and.
State of Connecticut, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Perfumers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in perfumers wherein an electric heating unit is employed for evaporating liquid or other forms of perfume.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a novel form of device which may be used as a perfumer, a humidifier, a deodorizer, disinfector or the like, and which will be both practical and ornamental, which is especially adapted for domestic use, as for the perfuming or disinfecting of a room or house; and is adapted to be used upon a boudoir table or other articles of furniture, and connected with the usual electric plug sockets.
A further object of the invention is to provide a perfumer through which the air ma be efiiciently circulated and expelled wi out the use of mechanical means to create a circulation. The perfumer is preferably formed of several separable parts including a base, a body, and a top portion, all adapted to be readily assembled in order to form an attractive device of thedescribed type which is'eflicient in its operation; simple and inexpensive to manufacture, and easy of access for cleaning, filling or repairing.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides and consists in the construction and novel combination I and arrangements of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construct-ion within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departure from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention. Y
Similar characters of reference denote 0 like or corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and upon which Fig. 1 shows a front elevation of my novel form of perfumer assembled and positioned as in use.'
Fig. 2 is a central vertical cross section of the perfumer shown in Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 shows a detached plan view of a preferred form of heating unit, for use in the perfumer.
The perfumer, as before suggested, is made up of several metal parts, and a container preferably formed of porcelain, and in which the perfume or 'other material to be vaporized is placed. The heating unit is made of metal and insulating material and is affixed to the body member of the perfumer.
Referring in detail to the characters of reference marked upon the drawings, 5 represents the base, of the erfumer, the top side of which base is pre erably dished as at 6, this base further includes an outwardly disposed annular flange 7 upon which the-depending annular side wall 8 of the body portion 9 is supported. The
lower edge of this annular side wall is prefholes in the cover in the manner indicated by the arrows.
The body portion of the perfumer is of a general cylindrical shape adapted to rest upon the flange 7 of the base and to encircle the upper portion of the base. The upper portion of the body 9 is provided with a relatively large vertically disposed central opening, to receive the receptacle 12, and to form an annular shoulder 11 around the upper end of the opening to support the perfume receptacle 12.
This receptacle is preferably round, and of a size to fit the opening and is provided with an annular head 13 around its outer top edged portion to rest upon the shoulder 11, before mentioned. The receptacle further includes a central vertically disposed tubular extension 14 which in practice projects up from the bottom. This tubular extension obviously forms an air passage up through the center from the lower chamber 15 and over, the perfume in the container to the upper chamber 16.
A suitable heating unit 17 is attached to the inner under side of the body 9 immediately below the bottom of the rece before mentioned, so the latter wi l readily be heated by the coil of the unit when the electric current is turned on, through a switch, not shown.
This heating unit includes a relatively flat shaped spool 18 which may be formed of any suitable insulating material and includes two or. more holes 19 through which screws 20 are inserted for its attachment to the body 9. A heating coil 21 is wound around the spool and has its opposite ends connected to blnding screw 22 and to which screws the current wires 23 are also connected. These current wires are insulated from each other and pass through an insulating bushing 24 positioned in a hole 25 in the side wall of the body.
The cover 26 for the perfumer is preferably of an ornamental external design, and is ofa general conical shape, hollowed away on the underside to form the chamber 16, before mentioned. This cover further includes around its top edged portion, an annular seat that rests upon the top edge of the body, and has an associated annular flange 27 which surrounds the top edged portion of the body so that the cover will not slip 0E.
The cover is further provided with holes 28 through which the fumes from the perfume pass out from the container when warmed by the heating unit.
Having thus. described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a perfumer, the combination of a body, a perfume receptacle within the body, an electric heating unit attached to the body beneath the receptacle, and means for providing a circulation of air through the body and around the heating unit and over the receptacle for conveying the odors, therefrom.
2. In a perfumcr of the class described, the combination of a body having a vertically disposed opening therein for the circulation of air therethrough, a removable receptacle seated in said opening and provided with an air passage therethrough, a heating unit positioned beneath the receptacle, and a cover supported on the body and having an opening through which the odors from the perfumer escape.
3. The combination with a cylindrical body portion and means for permitting cirtacle 12,
culation of air therethrough, of a receptacl e supported therein and havin a vertically dlsposed opening, an electric eating unit secured to the body beneath the receptacle, a cover supported on the body and enclosing the receptacle and having openings to permit of a circulation of air from the recepta and through the receptacle for conveying the odors therefrom.
6. In a perfumer of the class described, the combination of a base, a body member mounted thereon and having air passages therethrough, a removable receptacle seated in said body and providedwith an air passage therethrough, a heating unit positioned beneath the receptacle, and a cover supported on the body and having air passages through which odors from the interior may escape.
7. The combination with a base, a cylindrical body portion having air passages therein, of a receptacle supported in the body and having a vertically disposed opening, an electric heating unit secured to the body beneath the receptacle, a cover supported on the body and covering the receptacle and having openings to permit of a circulation of air over the receptacle.
8. In combination, a base having its upper surface dished to form a receptacle, a body mounted on the base, said body havin a vertical passage disposed over the dishe portion of the base and having an air inlet opening into the vertical passage, a receptacle mounted within the body, and a heating unit in the body to heat the receptacle and cause a circulation of air through the paslsages in the body and through the receptac e.
