GHARLES'P. BLATT, OF ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND JOHN F. WAGNER, SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN AERATORS AND, REFRIGERATORS FOR BEER AND OTHER LIQUIDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 220,795. dated October 21, 1879 application filed V June 7, 1879.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, CHARLES P. BLATT, of Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New J ersey,'have invented a new and Improved Aerator and Refrigerator for Liquids, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device, partly in section. Fig. 2is a sectional elevation on line as m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple and effective device for keeping beer and other liquidswhen on tap cold and supplied with common air or carbonic acid.
The invention consists of a box or cabinet containing an air-tight chamber, an ice-chamber, a place for the barrel or other vessel containing the liquid, and'other. devices that will be hereinafter described- In the drawings, A represents the cabinet or box, in the top of which is the air-tight chambcrB, provided with a device, a, for determining and registering the pressure of air within. Below this is the chamber 0, provided with ribs or slatsb on the bottom and sides, for containing ice. The floor of this chamber is perforated, as shown at c, and at tached to it, under the perforations, is the box 1), occupying the upper portion of the chamher or compartment E, which is designed to contain the barrels or other vessels holding the beer or other liquid, while still'below this, and occupying the bottom of the' cabinet, is the compartment F.
G is the pipe that is to be connected with an air-pump or carbonic-acid generator placed in any convenient position outside of the cabinet, and that leads into the chamber B, for the introduction therein of air or gas under pressure, which pressure is indicated by the device a. A pipe or tube, H, provided with a valve, 01, to regulate the delivery of the air,
ice-box and into the box D, and is coiled therein, so as to receive upon itself and lie in the cold water dripping from the ice, whereby the air within the pipe is cooled. Continuing out through the bottom of this box, the pipe terminates in a flexible tube, I, that is connected with a cock, K, fitted in the bung hole of the barrel L.
It will be seen that when the chamber B is supplied with air or gas under pressure any W desired amount can be introduced into the barrel or other vessel to aerate the contents, and that by this means the last glass of beer in the barrel may be made as fresh and sparkling as was the first, even if the barrel has been on tap for several days.
The drip or waste pipe M, provided with a trap, f, carries off the surplus water from the box D.
In the drawings the chamber E is shown lined with an air-tight metallic box, 9, to prevent the admission of heat from without, and the hinged ledges h are cut away at t" for the reception of the faucets of the barrels.
Each compartment of the cabinet, with the exception of the air-chambers, is provided with two doors, 0 O, hinged and swinging outward.
This device is simple, worked or managed.
I do not confine myself in all the details pre cisely to the construction herein shown.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The within-described aerator and refrigerator, consisting of the cabinet A, having an air-tight chamber,B,provided with a register, a, chamber 0, provided with slats b and perforations c,box D,containing the coils of pipe H, chamber E, provided with lining g, and ledges h, cut away at 5, chamber F, pipe G, pipe H, provided with valve d, pipe M, provided with traps f, flexible tube I, and doors 0 O, constructed and arranged substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination of the pipes H G, the former provided with the valve 61, with the chamber B, provided with a register, a, and the box D, provided with the pipe M, substan tially as and for the purpose described.
CHAS. P. BLATT useful, and easily Witnesses T. A. McCoRMIoK, GEORGE NEUBAUER.
