My invention relates to an adjustable clamping apparatusto be used fora variety of purposes,
and the objects of my invention are: 1 1 First, to provide a clampingapparatus of this class for supporting exercising bars, swings or the like in a doorway; I
Second, to provide a clamping apparatus ofthis class for use in supportingscaffolding various sized beams or the like: j y
) Third; to provide a clamping apparatusof this class which maybe used as a connecting means for towing automobiles;
Fourth, to provide a clamping apparatus of this class which is adjustable to objects of various Fifth, to provide a clamping apparatus of this classwhich might be used for the purpose oiremoving automobile wheels? j Sixth, to provide a clampingapparatus of this class which may be constructed of opposing members of the same pattern; and" \Seventh, to provide a clamping apparatus of this class which is very. simple and economical of constructiomefficient initsaction and will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
Withthese and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination the characters of referencethereon which form a part of this application in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my adjustab le clamping apparatus; Fig. 2 is an edge elevational view of my adjusting clamping apparatus; and Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of two of my adjustable clamps supporting an exer+ cising bar shown fragmentarily, shown clamped to the upper members of a door sill.

It will be here noted that the clamp members J I and 2 are made in duplicate. Also the clamp members 3 and 4 are made in duplicate. The clamp members I and 2 are provided with adjusting holes Ia and 2a to correspond with the adjusting holes 3a and 4a. respectively in the.

The bolts Band I are tightened by their respective wing nuts 60. and. la, which bolts are inserted through the adjusting holes Iw and 3a and 2a and 4a respectively. The clamp members I and 2 are also provided with sharp hook portions lb and 211 respectively. The clamp members I and 2 are provided withoutwardly protruding ridge portions I0 and extending the full length of the clamp members I and 2. These portions I0 and 2c 1 are made to fit and correspond with the channels 3cZ'and id in the clamp members 3 and 4 as shown best in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing.
The clamp members 3 and 4 are provided with adjusting holes 3w andla to correspond with the Y? adjusting holes Ia. and 2a respectively of the clamp members I and 2. The clamp members 3 and 4 are provided with adjusting holes 3b and 4b which are fastened and tightened by the wing nuts Illa. and lflb and their respective threaded counterparts I00 and Illdof the bolt It. The clamp members 3 and 4 are also provided with lug portions 3cand respectively through which are inserted the threaded bolts 8 and 9 of the chain hooks. 8a and Sa respectively between which the chain 5 is suspended, as shown best in. Fig. 1 of the drawing.
It will be here notedthat the clamp members 3 and 4 are provided with angularly extending portions 3e and 4a which are adapted to cross each other as shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawing and in which the bolt Illis mounted. The portion Ille of the bolt I0 is. integral with the threaded portions I00 and Illd and that the portion Ille is internally threaded to receive the I threaded adjusting bolt II, which threaded adjusting bolt II is provided with outwardly extending pin portions I la which are for the purpose of facilitating the turning of the threaded adjusting bolt II in the bolt portion I0e.
The clamp connection link I2 surrounds the portion llle and hangs downwardly therefrom as shown best in Figs. land 2' of the drawing.
The operation of my clamping apparatus is substantially as follows: Upon a beam or other object, this clamp may be fastened to support a given object by first adjusting the clamp by means of the adjustingholes I a, 2a, 3a and 4a to make it fit the particular thickness of said beam or other object. By means of the chain 5, the relative spaced relation of the clamp members I and 2 may be accomplished to fit the width of said beam or object. If closer adjustment of this relation is required, the. wing nuts 81) and9b are tightened or loosened as desired. As the hook portions lb and 2b are hooked over the top of the beam or other object in opposed relation to each other, the upper end of the adjusting bolt I I is tightened against the lower surface of said beam 'or object and works in combination with the chain 5 to accomplish a firm fastening of the entire clamp. The load may then be applied to the clamp by means of the clamp connection link [2. The clamp may be applied to the bumperof an automobile in the same manner as herein described for the purpose'of towing said automo-v bile.
Though I have shown and described a particu e lar construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to includein the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.

In a clamping-appa1 atus of the class-described, a pair-of substantially duplicate clamp members: each consisting of :tWO' longitudinally shiftablemembers and each provided with 6X tended hook portions onone end and with angularly turned portions-at their opposite,- ends, means for connectingsaid angular portions together inadjustable relation-to each other, and

In a clamping apparatus of the class described, a pair of substantially duplicate-clamp membersreach provided withextendedhook por-- tions on-one end and with 'angularly turnedportions at their opposite ends, meansfor connecting saidv angular portions togetherv inadjustable relation. to each other, an adjusting bolt adjustably mcuntedin said connecting means and extending upwardly toward said hook portions, and-nonyieldablemeans connecting. said clamp members intermediate their ends.

6 In a --clamping--apparatus of theclass described, a pair ofsubstantially duplicate clamp members, means for lengthening or shortening saidclamp members, each of said=clamp members provided with hooks on their one extended ends and provided with angular; portions-attheir opposite ends; chain andhook means connecting said clamp members intermediate their ends;
clamp bolt means connecting :said clamp-members at their angular portions in spaced relation I to each other, and an adjustingbolt screw threaded in said clamp bolt with its end extendingupwardly between said clamp members toward said hook portions.

In a clamping apparatus of the class described, a pair of substantially duplicate clamp members, means-for lengthening or shortening bers provided with hooks on their one extended ends-and provided with angular portions at their opposite ends, chain and hook-means connecting said clamp members intermediate their ends, clamp boltmeans connecting said clamp members at their angular portionsin spaced relation to each other, an adjusting bolt screw threaded in said clamp bolt with its' end extending upwardly between said clamp-;members toward said hook portions, and a link supported on said clamp bolt in; said. angular portions.
