(on. 40-16) 'The'invention relates to improvements in combined inventory and price tag holders especially adapted forin'dicating the price of articles of merchandise and for containing necessary data I for taking inventories, the primary object of the invention being the provision of a simple and efiicient device of the character indicatedwhich is capable of economical production and highly efficient in use.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which Fig. 1 is a face view of a holder embodying the invention;

Fig. 2 another face view thereof but showing the same extended as used in taking inventory;

Fig. 3 a reverse View corresponding to Fig. 2;

Fig. 4 an enlarged side View corresponding with Fig. 2; and

Fig. 5 a view similar to Fig. 4 but showing mounting tangs employed in the construction arranged in various positions.

The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises a supporting member made from a small strip of sheet metal doubled and bent at one end to form a retaining guide It) and a front pocket wall ll, said retaining guide being spaced outwardly from said wall to form a guide space H for the reception of the upper edge of a price tag l3 as indicated. The extreme end of the strip is extended inwardly and downwardly to form a combined stop lip and friction element M as indicated.

At the bottom of wall II, the strip is again doubled upon itself and bent to form a retaining guide l5 spaced from the wall H to form a guide space 16 adapted and arranged to receive the lower edge of the price tag l3, and whereby a guide channel is formed on the face of the wall H which is adapted and arranged to receive the price tag I3 or'permit its ready removal, as will be readily understood,

From the lower end of the wall, thestrip is bent rearwardly to form the bottom I! and upwardly and forwardly to form the rear wall [8 of a pocket IS, the extreme end of said strip being then bent downwardly and inwardly to form the leaf spring 20 within said pocket l9. Triangular mounting tangs 2| and 22 are struck from the material of the portions 20 and I8, respectively, of the strip, which tangs may also be provided with 'folded backpoints 23 as indicated-in Fig, 4. indicated in dotted lines, or said tan-gs maybe extended and straightened as shown in Fig. 5'

to engage the edges of a shelf, or thetang 22 may be bent downwardly as indicated'in dotted lines at the bottom of Fig. 5 to penetrate meat or other soft article of food. In this way a simple and efficient supporting member isprovided which may be readily attached to articles of'merchandise or mounted in association therewith under various conditions of use.

A carrier is also formed of sheet metal and is adapted and arranged to be inserted in the pocket'l9, with the upper portion 24 protruding from the top thereof. The upper end of the carrier is bent forwardly to form a retaining lip or flange 25 and is also doubled upon itself and bent medially to form another retaining lip or flange 25 adapted to receive between them a marking tag 2'! adapted and arranged to indicate as shown in Fig. 1, the character of the merchandise to which the supporting member is attached or otherwise associated. The lower portion 28 of the carrier extends vertically into the pocket IS in close and frictional engagement with the leaf spring 20 therein and whereby said carrier will' be frictionally held in various positions of adjustment in said pocket. At its lower end the carrier is provided with an upwardly extending stop lip 29 adapted and arranged to engage the stop lip l4 to limit the vertical adjustment of said carrier in said pocket. An inventory tag 30 is removably arranged as indicated on said carrier between the lips 26 and 29 and is provided as shown in Fig, 2 with suitably marked spaces for the reception of suitable data for inventory.

By this arrangement a simple and convenient device of the character indicated may be provided for attachment to or association with various articles of merchandise and which may be readily marked to indicate the character of the merchandise, the price for which it is tobe sold and the necessary data for taking inventory. When not in use for the last mentioned purpose, the carrier may be readily depressed so that the inventory tag will be concealed from view and protected from damage, injury and loss. The specific form and arrangement of parts disclosed is a simple and effective one for the purpose.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying the invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A device of the class described comprising a supporting member provided on its face with means for removably supporting a price tag or the like and behind its face with a pocket open at the top for receiving a carrier and permitting vertical adjustments thereof; a carrier vertically adjustable on said member to positions above or behind the same; means on the face of said carrier for removably supporting an inventory tag or the like; and means for removably mounting said member in display position.

2. The device specified in claim 1 in which a leaf spring is provided in said pocket to contact with said carrier and frictionally hold the carrier in various positions of adjustment.

3. The device specified in claim 1 in which means are provided for limiting the vertical adjustment of said carrier on said supporting memher.

4. The device specified in claim 1 in which a leaf spring is provided in said pocket to contact with said carrier and frictionally hold the carrier in various positions of adjustment and also means are provided for limiting the vertical adjustment of said carrier in said pocket.

5. A device of the class described comprising a supporting member formed from a strip of sheet metal doubled and bent at one end to form an upper tag guide and a rcarwardly and downwardly extending combined friction and stop lip, said strip extending downwardly from said upper guide to form a front pocket wall and being doubled and bent at the lower end of said wall to form a lower tag guide and extending thence rcarwardly and upwardly to form a rear pocket wall and then downwardly and inwardly to form a leaf spring in the pocket; and a carrier vertically adjustable in said pocket and provided on its face with means for removably supporting a tag or the like, said carrier being provided at its bottom with a stop lip adapted and arranged to engage the stop lip at the top of said pocket.

6. A supporting member of the class described formed from a strip of sheet metal doubled and bent at one end to form an upper tag guide and a rcarwardly and downwardly extending combined friction and stop lip, said strip extending downwardly from said upper guide to form a front pocket wall and being doubled and bent at the lower end of said wall to form a lower tag guide and extending thence rcarwardly and upwardly to form a rear pocket wall and then downwardly and inwardly to form a leaf spring in the pocket.

7. The supporting member specified in claim 6 in which mounting tangs are formed from said strip.
