Theconstruction of the holder is such that it can be readily formed from a single thin sheet of material, preferably metal. Said construction is suchthat there is ease in the insertion and detachment of the blade and security in its attachment. The holder is adapted foruse with a. double-edged blade of the wafer type.

Wide tongue I struck up from it, the root of the tongue being along a longitudinal line substantially parallel to the; front edge of plate 6, and located at substantially the mid-portion of said plate. The forward portion of tongue I is above theplane of plate 6. The portion of the tongue: immediately adjacent its front edge is bent upward from the plane of the tongue. While a single wide tongue isour preferred form, in-
stead of it, there could be used a row of two or more similar but narrower tongues similarly situated toreplace it. Slightly forward of the root or springingline of tongue 1, and on either side of it, plate 6 hasprojections 8 extending upward therefrom. "Projections 8 are preferably humps with rounded tops pressed up from plate 6. Said projections are on a longitudinal line substan tially parallel to thefront of plate 6.
Tongue l at itsroot is narrower than at the free endto allow humps 8 to be set in close 1 enough to come within slot l8 of the blade.
The rear of plate 6 is bent up and forward in theforln of a hook 9 to act as arear guard for the rear cutting edge of blade l0; The front edge of plate 6 is curved downward and preferably serrated to form a guard ll. Itis within the scope of my invention to use a front guard curved down as shown but without being serrated.
ELooping downwardly and inwardly from each side of plate 6 and integral therewith is an arm l2! Each arm [2 at an interval below plate 6, is
provided witha front inturned flange l3 and a rear inturned-flange I M. Arms l2 each have a bottom inturned flange l5. Arms l2 are tied to each other by an upper tongue 2! and a lower tongue 22. Said tongues are stamped out from the body of the arms, the tongue of one arm extending over to a slot 23 provided in the other and bent up to lie in a depressed portion 24 provided in said other arm. Arms [2 each with its front flange I3 and rear flange l4 form a hollow. handle substantially oblong in cross-section. Said handle is reversely curved in a slight S-shape for more conveniently gripping it by the fingers. The upper portion of the handle is convex to the rear at l6 and the lower portion is convex to the front at Il. The type of blade most suitable for my holder is two-edged, flexible and thin.1 It is a wafer blade, like the well known Gillette or similar types. At the mid-portion of the blade is an elongated slot l8, well known in such blades. The irregularities of slot '8, as seen in Figs. 1 and 5., are those. present in standard types of such blades and are not necessary .for .myholder. Along narrow slot having substantially straight and parallel sides would serve just as well.
In inserting the blade into the holder, the side edges H! are grippedbetween the thumb and middle finger and the blade moved rearwardly from a position in front ofplate 6 with the flat of the blade parallel tothe flatof said plate, onto the top of said plate, engaging tongue 1 in slot l8 and forcing the forward edge of said slot under tongue I. At the same time, the portions of blade Hi to the rear of slot I8 and near itsright and left handsides .ride over humps 8. In passing over said humps, the rear of the blade is bent upward. As the bladeis pushed to the rear, it is pinched between tongue 1, said tongue being resilient, and plate 6. When the forward edge of slot I8 is brought into abutment against the forward side of humps 8, blade Ill can no longer be pushed to the rear. When humps .8 enter slot 18, the rear portion of the blade unflexes. Tongue l pressesdownton the blade and holds the forward portion of the blade firmly down on top of plate 6.
To remove blade I 0, it is gripped between the thumb and middle finger toward the rear of side edges 19. With thefingersin this position, the blade is pulled upon in an upward and forward direction, causing the rear edge of slot l8 to ride over humps 8 and the forward edge of said slot to come free from the pinching action of tongue 1.
While the. holder is shown as made of .one
piece of sheet material, and this is the preferred form, yet it could be made of several piecesfastened together. Instead of having tongue I struck up from plate 6, said tongue could be a separate piece of spring material fastened to said plate. Likewise humps 8 could be pieces added toplate B, or said plate could be a casting with humps .8 formed on it and with the handle cast integral therewith. I
While the claims specify a tongue for the sake of simplicity, we wish it to be understood that they are intended to be broad enough to cover the use of a row of two or more similar but narrower tongues to replace said tongue.
We claim:
1. A safety razor holder for use with a resilient wafer blade having an elongated longitudinal slot, said holder comprising a supporting plate,
a cutting guard at the front of said plate, a resil-' ient tongue connected at its rear to the plate and extending toward the front of the plate, and projections on said plate, the front of said projections being set back from. the front of the plate so that when the front edge 'of the slot in the blade is in engagement with the front of said projections, the cutting edge of the blade is in proper cutting position with respect to the guard, said tongue, with the blade in said position, extending through the slot and pressingdown on the front portion of the blade.
2. A safety razor holder for use with a resilient wafer, blade having an elongated longitudinal slot, said holder comprising a'supporting plate, a cutting guard at the front of said, plate, a resilient tongue connected at its rear to the plate and extending toward the front of the plate, and upwardly extending projections on said plate, the rear of saidprojections being set back from the front of the plate so that when the rear edge of the slot in the blade is in engagement with the rear of said projections, the cutting edge of the blade is in proper cutting position with respect tothe guard, said tongue with the blade in said position, extending through the slot and pressing down on the front portion of the blade, with the tongue so pressing, the rearof said projections normally prevents forward motion of the blade.
,3, A safety razor holder for use with a resilient blade having an elongated longitudinal slot, said holder comprising a supporting member, a cutting guard at. the front of said member, a resilient tongue connected at its rear to the member and extending toward the front of the member, and upwardly extending projections on said member, having a relatively wide longitudinal space between them, the front of said projections being set back from the front of the'member so that when the front edge of the'slot in the blade is in engagement with the front of said projections,
the cutting edge of the blade is inproper cutting position with respect to the guard, the rear of the projections being spaced from the front so that when the blade is in said cutting position, the rear edge of said slot engages said rear of the projections, normally preventing forward mouse of the blade, said tongue, with the blade in said position, extending through the slot and pressing down on the front portion of the blade.
4-, A safety razor holder for use with a resilient blade having an elongated longitudinal slot, said holdercomprising a supporting member, a resilient'tongue connected at its rear tothe member and extending toward the front of the member, the rear of said tongue being at a substantial distance backfrom the front of the member, and upwardly extending projections on said member being spaced longitudinally so that the distance across them from the outside of one to the outside of the other equals substantially the length of the slot, said projections being set back from the front of the member so that when they are in engagement with the slot, the cutting edge at the front of the blade is in proper cutting position with respect to the front of the member, said tongue, with-the blade in said "position, extending through the slot and pressing down on the front portion of the blade, thereby normally holdingthe latter from being raised off said projections.
5. In a safety razor, a blade-supporting member, a resilient wafer blade adapted. to be carried thereby, said blade having an elongated longitudinal slot, a resilient tongue connected at its rear to the member and extending'toward the front of the member, the rear of said tongue being at a substantial distance back from the front of the member, and upwardly extending projec tions on said member set back from the front of the member so that when the projections are in eiga'gcment with the slot, the cutting edge at the front of the blade is in proper cutting position with respect tothe front of the member, said tongue with the blade in said position, extending through theslot and pressing down on the front portion of the blade, said blade being removable by pulling upon its side edges toward their rear,
thereby flexing same, and moving it forward to' ride over the projections and to slide out from under the tongue. I
6. 'In a safety razor, a blade-supporting member, a resilient wafer blade adapted to be carried thereby, said blade having an elongated longitu-' dinal-slot, a resilient tongue connected at its rear to the member'and extending toward the front of the member, the rear of said tongue being at a substantial distance back from the front of the member, and upwardly extending projections on said member set back from the "front of the member so that When the projections are in engagement with the slot, the cutting edge at the front of the blade is in proper cutting position with respect to the front of the member, said tongue,
with the blade in said position, extending throughthe slot and pressing down on'the front portion of the blade, said blade being insertible by grasping it at its side edges and moving it rearward over s'aid member, causing the tongue to pass through the'slot and come over the forward portion of the blade, the rear portion of the bladeflexing upw'ard and riding over the projections as the tongue passes over said front portion, said blade unflexi'ng at its rear when the projections have entered the slot.

A safety razor holder for usewith a resilient blade having an elongated longitudinal slot, said holder comprising a supporting member, a resilient tongue connected'at its rear to the member and extending toward the front of the member, the rear of said tongue being at a substantial distance back from the front of the membenthe tongue near'its front edge'curving upwardly and away from the top face of the member to permit the ready insertion of 'a blade between the tongue and the member, andprojections extending upwardly from said face, said projections being set back from the front of the member so that when they are in engagement with the slot, the cutting edge at the front of the blade is in proper cutting relation to the front of the member.
8. A safety razor holder foruse with a resilient? blade having an elongated longitudinal slot, said holder comprising a supporting member, a resilient tongue connected at its rear to the member and extending toward the front of the member, the rear of the tongue being at a substantial distance back from the front of the member, and an upwardly extending projection on said member alongside each side of the tongue, said projections being spaced longitudinally so that the distance across them from the outside of one to the outside of the other equals substantially the length of the slot, said projections being set back from the front of the member so that when they are in engagement with the slot, the cutting edge at the front of the blade is in proper cutting relation to the front of the member, said tongue,
with the blade in said relation extending through theslot and pressing down on the front portion of the blade, the width of the tongue at its front being greater than where it comes between said projections.
9. A safety razor holder for use with a resilient double cutting edged blade having an elongated silient tongue connected at its rear to the member and extending toward the front of the member, the rear of the tongue being at a substantial distance back from the front of the member, and upwardly extending projections on said member set back from the front of the member so that when they are in engagement with the slot, the front cutting edge of the blade is in proper cutting position with respect to the guard and the rear cutting, edge is out of contact with said flange, said tongue, with the blade in said position extending through the slot and pressing down on the front portion of the blade.

In a safety razor, a one-piece sheet metal holder comprising a supporting plate, means formed on said plate for retaining a cutting blade thereon, an arm extending inwardly and downwardly fromeach side of said plate, said arms at their lower portions being channel-shaped with webs parallel and flanges extendingtoward each other and meeting, said webs extending in a front to rear direction, and means for fastening the arms to each other.
11. In a safety razor, a one-piece sheet metal holder comprising a supporting plate, means formed on said plate for retaining a cutting blade thereon, an arm extending inwardly and downwardly from each side of said plate, said arms at their lower portions being channel-shaped with webs parallel and flanges extending toward each other and meeting, said webs extending in a front to rear direction, and a tongue struck from the web of one arm and extending through a corresponding slot in the other and bent to prevent its removal therefrom, for fastening the arms to each other.
