Description
June 4, 1940. H. STEC HANGER FOR TROUSERS Filed May 2, 1938 INVENTOR BY AM I I ATTORNLEY/ Patented June 4, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The object of this invention is to make a device that can be used for hanging trousers upside down, the device having two jaws between which are clamped the bottom of the trousers.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device in which a cam or eccentric is used for pressing the jaws together.
Another object of the invention is to locate this eccentric in the middle of the device, so that it will draw together the wires by which the jaws,
are suspended.
- These and other objects of the invention will be illustrated in the drawing, described in the specification, and pointed out in the claim at the end thereof.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a side elevation of the device partly broken away.
Figure 2 shows a vertical section through the device, the section being taken on the line 2:c2a: of Figure 1.
Figure 3 shows a horizontal section, the section being taken on the line 3m-3zc of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the device, showing a modification of the device shown in Figure 1.
Figure 5 shows a vertical section, the section being taken on the line liar-5x of Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a horizon a1 section on the line 691-612 of Figure 5.
In the drawing like reference numerals indicate like parts.
In the drawing reference numerals I and 2 indicate the two jaws of the device, which are made preferably of wood. 3 indicates the hook by which the jaws are suspended, which hook is made preferably of one piece of wire bent to the desired shape. As shown in Figures 1 and 2', this hook has two members 4 and 5 joined together at 6. At the intermediate points indicated by reference numerals I and 8, the members 4 and 5 are flattened, but otherwise the wire is left round. The lower ends of the members 4 and 5 pass through the jaws I and 2 and are turned up at the bottom. These upturned ends are inserted in sockets suitably provided in the wooden jaws. This gives a firm bearing of the wire members on the jaws. As above pointed out, the member 4 is flattened as indicated at 1, and to this member is fastened in any suitable way a metal strap 9, which strap encircles the member 5 at 8. The outer ends of this strap arepivotally connected to an eccentric In, which is provided with a handle ll. As shown in Figure 5, this eccentric I 0 can be moved from the dotted line position to the full line position, or vice versa. When in the dotted line position, the jaws l and 2 are released, so to speak, so that they can be spread apart for the insertion of the bottom of the 5 trousers between them, and after the trousers are inserted between them the eccentric can be moved to the full line position, in which position it presses the members 4 and 5 together at the bottom and at the same time securely presses 10 the jaws l and 2 together to clamp the bottom of the trousers between them. In order to give the eccentric ID a firm bearing on the wire member 5, this member is flattened as indicated at 8, so that a broad, fiat surface is presented to the bearing surface of the eccentric and thereby the locking, of the members together is thus better secured.
In Figure 4 I have shown the jaws l and 2. suspended by a hook 13, made of fiat wire, which hook comprises the members l4 and 15 joined together at I5. These wires appear rectangular in section at I! and 18 in Figure 6 and the corresponding wires in Figures 1 and 2 would appear in the same way if the section were taken through the strap 9 or just above it. The lower ends of the members 14 and I5 are mortised into the jaws l and 2 and fastened therein in any suitable manner.
In use, the eccentric is placed in the dotted 0 line position as shown in Figure 5, and the lower ends of the trousers are inserted between the jaws when spread apart. The eccentric is then moved to the full line position,,pressing the jaws together securely clamping the bottoms of the trousers between the jaws, after which the hook can be engaged with any suitable support so that the trousers will hang at full length therefrom.
I claim:
The combination of a pair of parallel jaws, a 40 hook having two members for supporting the "jaws, each of said members engaging one of the jaws, a strap fastened to one member of the hook and loosely embracing the other member of the hook, an eccentric pivotally mounted between the two free ends of said strap, said'eccentric bearing against the other member of said hook and being adapted when in one position to holdthe two members of the hook and their jaws together and in another position being adapted to release the jaws and the members of the hook.
