1 Claim.
This invention appertains to a terminal connector for storage batteries, and has for one of its primary objects the provision of a connector which can be easily placed on and removed from a battery post without the use of tools.
Another salient object of my invention is to provide a one-piece terminal connector having molded therein a steel plate provided with an offset edge projecting into the bore of the connector, said edge forming an interrupted thread for cutting into the post, thereby insuring the desired and correct new contact with the post without danger of the connector working oil. the post incident to vibration and the like.
A further important object of my invention is to provide a terminal connector formed from acid-resisting material having embedded therein a plate carrying a diagonally disposed cutting knife-edge, whereby the connector can be readily rotated on and off a battery post.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed, 5 and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in

The storage battery B is of the usual or any preferred character or make, and includes a case I0 and a tapered terminal post H.
My novel connector C includes a solid one- 5 piece body I5 having a vertically disposed, ta-
pered bore l6 therein opening out the upper and lower faces thereof. The body I! is formed from acid-resisting material and is molded into the desired shape in any desired or preferred way.

In accordance with my present invention, a
sheet metal plate I! is molded within the body it, as is clearly shown in Figures 3 and 4. This sheet metal plate l9 can be constructed from any preferred material, such as steel, and is stamped into the desired shape. In the present instance, I have shown the body it of a cylindrical configuration, and, consequently, the plate I! has been shown in the drawing tobe of an annular shape. The inner edge of the plate I! has 0 formed thereon a diagonally extending lip 20, l which forms an interrupted thread. When the plate I! is properly molded within the body ll of the connector 0, the lip 20 protrudes into the bore, and, hence, forms an interrupted thread in u said bore. The plate itself can be formed from or coated with acid-resisting material, but, ohviously, as the plate is molded within the body I, the body itself will form a protector for the plate. so
In use of my novel connector, the same is slid onto the post ll until the lower leading edge of the interrupted thread or lip 20 engages the post. At this time, the connector C is forcibly rotated on the post, and the lip or thread will cut into the post and feed the connector thereon J Obviously, the sharp hard metal cutting into the post will create a sharp new surface in the post, and, thus, the proper electrical contact is insured. After the lip has cut into the post, accidental displacement or working loose of the connector is precluded, but the connector can be easily removed from the post by a forcible retrograde turning movement.
From the foregoing description, it can be that I have provided an exceptionally simple and durable connector, which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a low cost, and which will insure a proper contact at all times.
Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or the scope of my invention, but what I claim as new is:
A connector for the terminal post of storage batteries comprising, a solid moldable metal body of electric conducting material having a bore gradually tapering toward the upper end thereof for snugly engaging the outer surface of a battery post throughout its entire interior area, means on the body for receiving a conduit cable, and an electric conducting sheet metal plate formed from harder metal than the body molded 50 in said body having an offset lip projecting into the bore of said body and forming an interrupted thread in the bore, said lip being adapted to cut into a. battery postto insure good electrical contact and thread the body on said post when the I body is placed on the post and rotated.
