UNITED STATES PATENT OFT- 0151 OAOILIE KUHL, OF JERSEY CITY HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN DIAPER-COVERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 219,820, dated September 23, 1879; application filed January 27, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GiiorLIE KoHL, of J ersey City Heights, in the county of Hudson, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Diaper Govers and Belts, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved diaper cover and belt, shown as applied for use and. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same in open position, to show the shape of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish for babies an improved diaper cover and belt, by which the soiling of the bed-clothes, as well as of the clothes of the baby or attendant, is prevented, the abdomen kept warm and fully protected, and, furthermore, the changing of the diapers accomplished with great facility. The cover retains the diaper snugly on the body of the child, and prevents the dropping of the diaper by the motions of the child and the exposure of the abdomen to cold.
The invention consists of a diapencover' which is made of a piece of rubber cloth or other pliable and water-proof fabric and of inverted triangular shape. The cover is attached by an elastic belt at the upper part around the waist, While the pointed or lower part is passed through between the legs and The sides of the cover are cut out or indented to fit around the legs, the sides being retained theigeon by means of elastic retaining-strap and fastening devices.
Referring to the drawings,-Arepresents my improved diaper-cover, which is cut out of a piece of rubber cloth or other suitable pliable and water-proof fabric. The cover A is made of triangular shape'and used in inverted position, with the apexdownward.
The upper corners of the triangle are cut off in such a manner that the edges meet in front. To the upper edge of the cover Ais attached a belt, B, of elastic fabric, which is either buttoned onto a waist, G, or buckled in front when no waist is worn. The lower pointed portion of the cover is passed through between the legs, and attached by an elastic band, a, and a suitable buckling device, I), to the belt B. The sides of the cover A are cut out or indented, as shown at cl, so as to fit around the legs. The sides are snugly retained on the legs by means of elastic straps e and fastening devices f, by which the cover, in connection with the attachment of the lower portion at the front part of the belt, is tightly applied to the body. The diaper is placed in position on the inside of the cover, after the front and side fastenings have been opened, and the diaper supported in proper position, without diaper-pins, by closing the cover by the fastening devices. The closely-fittin g and water-proof quality of the cover prevents any soiling of clothes, and keeps the child warm, while the convenient opening and closing of the cover facilitates the changing of the diapers and the more convenient cleaning and handling of the child.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentp A diaper-cover of theform shown, recessed at each side at 11, provided at the upper edge with an elastic band, B, and with'elastic fastening-bands b e f, provided with catches, and arranged as shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 22d day of January, 1879.
