Application October 24, 1938, Serial No. 236,777
1 Claim.
This invention relates to roller skates.
The invention has for its object to provide a new and useful roller skate, so constructed that the foot-plate will be prevented from sagging,
and the wheels have strong and firm supports.
Referring to the accompanying drawing:
Figure l is a plan view of the under side of the skate.
Figure 2 is a side view of the skate.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the skate, with the wheels omitted.
Figure 4 is a detail View of one of the rollers and its support.
The roller skate constructed in accordance with 16 this invention consists of a foot-plate I, and a sub-structure formed of a sheet of metal secured to the under side of the foot-plate, and of a U-shape and extending from end to end of the foot-plate, and providing the curved longitudinal depending side portions 2, terminating at each end with a downward part 3, and an upwardly extending part 4, secured at its upper end by a flange 5 to the under side of the foot-plate.
The lower ends of the parts 3 and 4 are clamped together as shown, and the parts 3 and 4 are spaced apart to form a depending V-shape member.
Each clamp portion is provided with a hole 6, serving as a bearing for the ends of the axle I 39 of the roller 8.
It will thus be seen that at each end of the foot-plate I, a pair of V-shaped legs are provided, which serve as a support for a roller 8.
Each roller 8 is thus firmly supported and held in alignment.
The curved side portions 2 serve to provide a firm support for the foot-plate I, and also for the legs, and will prevent the foot-plate from 5 sagging.
By means of the construction hereinbefore set forth, the skate will stand the various movements of the skater, such as are used in ice skating.
I claim:
In a roller skate, a foot plate, and a combined roller bracket and foot plate bracing structure comprising a single sheet of metal bent in channel shape intermediate its lateral edges to provide a pair of parallel spaced-apart reinforcing flanges, the intermediate portion of said sheet secured along the under side of said foot plate and said flanges adapted to support the foot plate against sagging, said flanges having integral 20 extensions at their opposite ends and said extensions being returned upon themselves and disposed in divergent relation to the flanges and secured at their free ends to the underside of said foot plate for reinforcing and supporting the 25 lateral portions of the foot plate from bending, the overturned portions of said extensions providing bearings of double thickness having registering bearing openings therethrough, axles secured through said openings to support the axles directly in said overturned extensions, and rollers mounted on said axles.
