The reciprocating scraper mechanism, operating as it does in a lateral direction, prevents the paste from being stripped out of the grid, as is the case with the usual scraper device, and, instead, packs the pastefirmly within the grid by scraping the paste laterally, first on one side and then on the other, this lateral scraping against the individual fins of the grid tendingto lock it firmly within the grid. The apparatus is extremely simple in construetion and operation while performing an entirely new function, namely of. packing the paste within the grids by lateral movement of the scraper, thescraper moving first in one direction and then in the other direction at right angles to the fins of the grid.
While intheforegoing specification, I have set out one example by way of illustration, it will. be
understood that many changes can be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of my invention. The foregoing description has been given for clearness of understanding only, and no unnecessary limitations should be understood therefrom, but the appended claims should be construed as broadly as permissible, in view of the prior art. 7
I claim:
1. In a grid pasting machine'of the character set forth, a conveyor belt, means for driving said belt, a hopper supported over said belt and equipped on one side with a hinge whereby said hopper may be moved to a position on one side of said belt, a scraper plate guide carried by said hopper, a; scraper plate slidably secured between said guide and said plate, and means for reciprocating" said" scraper plate laterally.
2. In a-grid pastingymachine of the character set forth, a conveyor belt, means for driving said belt; a hopper supported over said belt and equipped on one side with a hinge whereby said hopper may be moved toa position on one side of said belt, a scraper paste guide carried by said hopper, asora'per plate having longitudinal interlocking connections with said guide whereby said scraper plate. may reciprocate laterally, and means for reciprocating said scraper plate.
