HOLIDAY Inventor Attbrncys Patented Mar. 19, 1940 UNITED STATES FiCE PATENT 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to signs of the changeable exhibitor type and embodies a backboard adapted to contain printed information to inform customers of a bank, firm or other institution, when the same will be closed, or any other information desired to be imparted, and including a plurality of hingedly connected panels secured in superposed relation at the top of the back-board and connected to the latter by a conventional type of ring connector for selectively displaying the panels at the front of the board and upon which may be printed the day of the week or any other desired information upon which the bank, firm, or institution will be closed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a sign of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manu-a facture, and otherwise well-adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof,
wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevational View.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on a line 2-2 of Figure l, and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary detail of one form of wire ring connector for hingedly connecting the panels to the back-board.
Referring now to the drawing in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates aback-board whichmay be constructed of any suitable material and having printed on its front face the sign indicia 0 designated at 6, which preferably comprises the words This bank will be closed-Legal holiday, or other desired wording.
The upper edge of the board is provided with a plurality of openings 1 through which a ring binder or connector of conventional construction, as illustrated at 8, is inserted for swingably connecting a plurality of panels 9 to the back-board, said panels also having openings II! at their upper edges aligning with the opening I in the back-board for swingably mounting the panels on the connector 8 in a manner as will be apparent. The front face of each of the panels also contains printed matter designating a day of the week on which the closing of the bank will occur, such as indicated at H, the 5 printed matter on the panel appearing immediately above the printed matter on the backboard to complete the sign.
A suitable number of the panels 9 are provided so that each panel may contain the ap- 10 propriate printed matter designating one of the working days of the week, so that by swinging the desired panel to a position in front of the backing board 5 the designated day will appear at thetop of the sign. 15
It will be apparent that in place of the name of a particular day appearing on the panels 9,
that the same may also be provided with printed matter to otherwise designate a particular day on which the bank will be closed, such as the 20 words Today or Tomorrow.
The backing board 5 and the panels 9 are also provided with a registering opening l2 adjacent the upper edge thereof providing means. for hanging the sign in a suitable position for dis- 25 playing the same.
It is believed the details of construction and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A sign comprising a back-board, a plurality of panels of a width equal to that of the area of the backboard and means hingedly connecting 35 the upper edges of the panels and the back-board to provide for the selective swinging of the panels into and out of position in front of the backboard to expose one of the panels, the lower edges of the panels terminating short of the 40 lower edge of the backboard, each of said panels containing distinctive printed matter and said backboard containing additional printed matter adapted to cooperate with the printed matter of a selected panel to form a complete sign in which 4,5 the portion of the sign appears on the exposed panel and the remainder of the sign'appears on the back-board.
