The invention relates to respirators and more especially to a nasal filter or nasal dust stopper.
The primary object of the invention is the pro- ,vision of a device of this character, wherein the 6 same is of a construction that it may be inserted into the nostril passages to prevent on inhalation the flow of dust or other foreign floating particles into the nostril passages for relieving sufferers of asthma, hay-fever and sinus disturbances, and being invisible when inserted within the nostril passages.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the same is of a construction to allow tight fitting in the nostril passages for excluding dust and foreign matter therefrom and thus assuring health and comfort, particularly to sufferers of sinus trouble, asthma, colds or other nasal disturbances which cause irritation thereto, the device being of novel construction in its entirety.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the construction thereof enables the application of medicaments to the nasal passages for the treatment of diseases thereof so as to relieve suffering and minimizing the chances of contracting colds Q or other nasal disturbances.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, readily and easily applied and removed, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

1938, Serial No. 205,068 7 Referring to the drawing in detail, the device constituting'the present invention comprises a body unit In preferably made from rubber rendering the said body inherently resilient or flexible to the required degree for the proper fitting thereof within a nasal passage ll, being of substantially elliptical shape effecting a correspondingly shaped open center !2 while embedded within the body it) is a reinforcing wire [3 of zigzag formation, being trained spirally through the body with the ends of this wire meeting the outermost coils thereof, the coils of such wire being spread with respect to each other. The wire I3 is embedded in the body Hi and the zigzag formation I4 of this wire assures a freer flexibility or distortion of the body while the spiral arrangement thereof serves to hold the said body distended in a longitudinal direction. The flexibility of the body assures the fitting thereof within the nasal passage II for the wearing of the respirator. Several other wires I3 of similar formation to the wire l3 are embedded in the body II] to be disposed opposite each other and the terminals N5 of these wires are bent inwardly to protrude from the body into the open center l2, which latter affords a cavity, or cell for a purpose presently described.
At one end of the body externally thereof is a bead i6 which becomes seated in the wall of the nasal passage II for the sealing of the body l0 when inserted within this passage to avoid escape of air between the walls of the passage.

The medicament may be of the kind for the treatment of nasal troubles such as common colds, sinus affliction, hay-fever, asthma or other disturbances. 1 In applying the device, the bead I6 is innermost of the body l0 when within the passage H in the nose l8 and not only seals the device between the body IB and the wall of the passage but also anchors the same when worn within such passage. Breathingpby a wearer is had through the nasal passage in the usual manner and dust and other foreign matter will be excluded from the passage II.
It is of course understood that each passage 'l'l in the nose I8 is fitted with the device so that protection will be had to both nasal passages and such device is most advantageous for persons working in a dusty or a smoky atmosphere forthe exclusion thereof from the nasal passagesnthe device being beneficial to sufierers of disturbances" hereinbefore set forth.
What is claimed is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a tubular inherently yieldable body of substantially elliptical shape in cross section, a con cavo convex strainer centered within the body -stantially elliptical shape in cross section, a con cavo convex strainer centered Within the body at one end thereof, a reinforcing member spirally embedded in the body, oppositely arranged reinforcing members within said body and having ends projecting inwardly from Within the body, filtering means within the body and anchored by said ends, and an external bead formation on 20 said body next to the strainer.
