Application December 27, 1938, Serial No. 247,882
1 Claim, (01. 1s9 s2 The present invention relates to new and useful. improvements in lattices for different pur--- poses and has for its primary object'to provide,
in a manner as hereafter set forth, a device of,
thischaracter embodying a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts through the medium of which said devicemay be conveniently adjusted longitudinally to meet various conditions; I
Other objects of the invention'are to provide an extensible lattice of the character described which will be comparatively simplein construction, strong, durable, ornamental and attractive in appearance andwhich may be manufactured at low cost;
All of the foregoing and still further objects 1 and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification; taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout: the several views, and wherein:
Figure l is a view in front elevation of an extensible lattice constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the device in use.
Figure 2 is a view in vertical section, taken substantially on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a view in horizontal section through the device, the end' portions thereof being broken away. I I
Figure 4 is an enlarged view in elevation of a corner portion of one of the frames and the ad jacent parts. v
I Figure 5 is an enlarged elevational view of the lowerinner corner portion ofthe slidable frame and the adjacent parts.
Figure 6 is 'a planview of one of 'the guides.
Referring nowto the drawings in detail, it
will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a pair. of substantially rectangular'frames .I and Z of suitable metal. Theframes l and 2 are similar in construction and are of the cross sectional shape shown to advantage'in Fig. 2 of the drawings, said frames includingsubstantially. .C-shaped outer portions 3having formed integrally therewith spaced, opposed inwardly extending flanges 4. Mounted in the frames I and 2 are foraminous metallic sheets 5. The foraniinous sheets 5 may be of expanded metal. 1
The frames 1 and 2am adjustably'connected for movementtoward or away from each other by a lazy tong 8 which is connected, at its ends, to said frames through the medium of clips I.
As illustrated to advantage in Fig. 4 of the drawings, the uppermost clips Tare permanently fixed on the portions 3 of the frames I and 2 by welding, as at 8. The lowermost clips I are slidable on the frames I and 2, as shown to advantage in Fig. 5 of the drawings.
Mounted on the top and bottom of the frame land projecting horizontally therefrom above and below the lazy tong 6 is a pair of guides 9 in which the frame 2, is slidable. The guides 9 terminate in substantially C-shaped, right angularly extending end portions Ill and II which accommodate the frames I and 2, respectively. As also shown to advantage in Fig. 4 of the drawings, the end portions II] of the guides 9 are fixed to the top and bottom of the frame I by Weldirig,
as at I2. The frame 2 is'slidable in the other end portions II of the guides 9.
g It 'will thus be seen that a lattice has been provided which may be expeditiously adjusted longitudinally .to meet various conditions. In Fig. l of the drawings, the device is shown in use between a pair of piers l3. However, it will be understood that the device may be used for any other purposes for whichit may be found adapted and.'desirable, such as in vents, in concrete or masonry walls. The frame, 2 is slidable longitudinally in the guides 9 toward or away from the frame I, the lazy tong 6 permitting any desired adjustment to be readily made within the range of said lazy tong, of course. i
I It is believed that the many advantages of a adjustable lattice constructed in accordince with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details ofconstruction and in the combination and arrange ment of parts may be resorted to which will fall of each pair being slidably connected to its respective frame, a pair of elongated bars, means for firmly connecting one end of one bar to the top of the first frame, means for firmly connects ing one end of the other bar to the lower part of said first frame, the bar connected with the upper end of the first frame extending over the top 2 2,191,566 7 v oflthe lazytong assembly, a clip connected'to the second frame, the clip-carrying ends of the bars other end of said last-mentioned bar and slidbeing located adjacent the inner end of the sec ably engaging the top of the second frame, the 0nd.
