The opening 8, being of less width than the button I,as'he're' inbefore described, prevents .the button slippingv through the opening.
The `upward thrust ofthe' tape 6 relative to the stocking a: moves the button I upwardly until the junction of the tape 6 with the button I at the teeth II isfbrought into engagement rwith the bend IIIv of th'ewing 9 at the upper margin of the opening 8. Itis at this point that a large fraction of the supporting stress is applied to the stocking. The diameter of the bend I0, being wide in comparison with the thickness of the sheet metal composing the eye, safeguards against undue wear on the stocking.
The portion of the stocking a: above the assembled clasp is confined between the .two depending sides of the tape 6. `The thinness of `the clasp brings these ends of the tape into close proximity with each other. lThe stocking is thereby frictionally engaged therebetween, thus preventing the portion of the stocking above the clasp from sagging, to the discomfort of the wearer. l
When it is desired to disengage the clasp, the n button I is pulled outwardly from the eye member 'I. It is thenswung soas to lie co-planar with the end of the tape Iiv to which it is attached.
The tape 6 is retracted through the opening 8, drawing the button I with it. This frees the stocking which may then be removed.
In theV modified form shown in Fig. 9, the button member has the auxiliary wing member 2x which is bent back atl 3a: over the body I, thus making the button member of morenearly uniform thickness throughout. vWhen theclasp is engaged, lthe modified button member will then lie substantially parallel with the eye membe ofthe clasp. (Compare with Fig. 2.)
Having thus described the invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a hose supporter having a depending tape end; a clasp member having a body with a series of holes therethrough, an integral wing adapted to be bent back over the body of said clasp member and a series of teeth in the edge of said wing and angularly disposed thereto and adapted to enter said series of holes whereby to impale .said tape end extending between the body of said clasp member and said wing.
2. In a hose supporter having a depending tape end; a clasp including an eye member having ,an opening therethrough and a horizontally aligned series of holes in its upperv portion, an
integral wing `extending' from the upper side of said opening and adapted to be bent back over the body of said eye member, and a series of teeth on the edge of said wing and angularly disposed thereto and adapted to enter said holes inthebodyof said eye member, whereby to impale the tape end extendingbetween the body of said eye member and said wing. 3. In avhose' supporter havinga depending tape end.' a clasp including an eye member of relatively thin sheet metal having an opening therethrough and a series of holes lateral to said opening,` an integral wing extending from the side nearest said holes-and adapted to be bent back over the body of saideye member, and a series offse'rrate teeth on the edge of said wing and adaptedto enter said series of holes, whereby toimpale the tape end extending between the body oi. said eye member and said wing.
