l This invention relates-generally to closures, and
more particularly to hingesfor refrigeratorand" other doors.
An object of the invention is to provide a hinge which is structurally characterized ;by its" selfclosingfeature, the mechanism for which is entirely concealed, and embodies means by which a reversal of its automatic closing action is effected .upon movement of a' closure beyond a predetermined open position, so that-such means 00- actsjwith the mechanism in maintaining the closureopen, and in addition provides a definite stop to limit the maximumfopen position of the closure.
'15 Another object of the inventionis toprovide a hinge in which a spring mechanism'for urging -jamb and door members relatively to the closed position of a door isoperatively connected to one of said membersby a linker such construction and relationship to the hinging axis of the members, as to reverse the action ofthespring mechani'smbeyond a predetermined open position 'ofthe door, and to co-act with the hinge "pivot v structure in providing a definite stop to the cpeningmovement of the door.
With these and other objects in view, themvention resides in the combinationsand 'arrangevments of elements asset forth inthe following specification, and particularlypointed outin the appended claims. g

Referring specifically to the drawing, the in- I vention comprises jamb and door members l0 ,and H, the former including a flat pad 12 having openings receiving screws l3'to fasten such member to a jamb M of a refrigerator 'or other structure. The jamb-member I0 is also provided with spaced lugs l5 rigidly connected .by-a web it and having alined openingsreceiving a hinge pin 1'! which also passes through a sleeve 18 on 1 the doormember l I, disposedbetween the lugs 15 asclearlyshown in Figure 4.

As opening movement of the door is initiated,
the distance between thepivot pin 29 of the linkii w Ziland the anchor pin '24 of the spring 23 will increase, thus further loading the spring and causing the link to swing about the axis-ofthe pin 29 and then ride upon the innersurface' '32 of the door member ll, whereby to disaline their point of connection of the spring to'the link,
I with respect to the axesof the pivot pin 29 and anchorpin 24. At any desired open-position of the door which in thepresent instance is approximately one hundred-twenty degrees, the axis ofelo the hinge pin ll becomes alined with the point of connection of the spring to the link andthe axis of the anchor pin 24, whereby a dead center position is created so that the spring is no longer capable of urging the door closed.
Further opening movement of the door will disaline the axis of the hinge pin I! from the point of connection of the spring .tothe link and the axis of the anchor pin so that the force of the spring is noweiiective along the lineb-b inFig- E50 ure"3 and thus-acts reversely to urge the door open. Furthermore, it will be noted that the housing 22 co-acts with the wall Hi to entirely conceal the spring and link mechanism when the door is closed so as not to detract from the smooth finished appearance of the hinge.
What is claimed is:
l. A hinge comprising a jamb member; a door member mounted from the jamb member for hinging movement; a link pivotally mounted on the jamb member; a coil spring directly connected at one end to the link, and at its other end to the door member for co-action therewith in urging the door member to a closed position with reference to a door until a dead center position is reached at a predetermined open position of the door; and means co-acting with the link beyond said open position, to reverse the action of the door member to an open position with reference to the door.
2. A hinge comprising a jamb member; a door member mounted from the jamb member for hinging movement; a link pivotally mounted on the jainb member; a spring connected to the link and door member for co-action therewith in urging the door member to a closed position with reference to a door until a dead center position is reached at a predetermined open position of the door; means co-acting with the link beyond said open position, to reverse the action of the spring so as to urge the door member to an open position with reference to the door; and means with which the link co-acts to definitely limit the opening movement of the door member beyond said dead center position.
3. A hinge comprising a jamb member having a hinge pin; a door member having a sleeve receiving the hinge pin to mount the door member from the jamb member for hinging movement; a
link pivotally mounted on the jamb member eccentrically of the hinge pin; and a spring connected to the link and to the door member for co-action therewith in urging the latter to a closed position with reference to a door; the link being disposed to engage the door member and create a dead center position thereof beyond which the spring is eifective to urge the door member to an open position with reference to the door, and to engage the sleeve beyond said dead center position of the door member so as to definitely limit the opening movement of the door member.

' a door member having a sleeve disposed between said sleeves; a hinge pin co-acting with the aforestated sleeves to mount the door member from the jamb member for hinging movement; a link pivotally mounted on the jamb member between said wall and the door member; a coil spring directly connected at its ends to the link and to the door member so as to be loaded in tension for co-action in urging the door member to a closed position with reference to a door; and means defining a housing on the door member co-acting with said wall to enclose the link and spring.
5. A hinge comprising a jamb member having spaced sleeves and a wall spanning the sleeves; a door member having sleeve disposed between said sleeves; a hinge pin co-acting with the aforestated sleeves to mount the door member from the jamb member for hinging movement; a link pivotally mounted on the jamb member between said wall and the door member; a spring connected to the link and to the door member for co-action in urging the latter to a closed position with reference to a door; means defining a housing on the door member co-acting with said wall to enclose the link and spring; and means on the door member with which the link co-acts to create a dead center position during opening movement of the door member, beyond which position the action of the spring is reversed to urge the door member to an open position with reference to the door.

A hinge comprising a jamb member having spaced sleeves and a wall spanning the sleeves; a door member having a sleeve disposed between said sleeves; a hinge pin co-acting with the aforestated sleeves to mount the door member from the jamb member for hinging movement; a link pivotally mounted on the jamb member between said wall and the door member; a spring connected to the link and to the door member for co-action in urging the latter to a closed position with reference to a door; means defining a housing on the doormember co-acting with said wall to enclose the link and spring; and means on the door member with which tr e link co-acts to create a dead center position during opening movement of the door member, beyond which position the action of the spring is reversed to urge the door member to an open position with reference to the door, the link being formed to engage said sleeve when the door member reaches a predetermined open position, so as to definitely limit the opening movement of the,
door member.

A hinge comprising a jamb member having spaced sleeves and a Wall spanning the sleeves; a door member having a sleeve disposed between said sleeves; a hinge pin co-acting with the aforementioned sleeves to mount the door member from the jamb member for hinging movement; a link pivotally mounted on the jamb member between said wall and the door member; a spring connected to the link and to the door member for ence to the door, the link being curved to re-v ceive said sleeve intermediate the ends of the link, so as to be stopped by the sleeve and thereby definitely limit the open position of the door member.
8. A hinge comprising a jamb member; a door member mounted from the jamb member for hinging movement; a link pivotally mounted at one end on the jamb member; and a coil spring connected at one end to the other end of the link,
and at its other end to the door member so as, to be-loaded in tension for co-action with the link in urging the door member to a closed position in reference to a door.

A hinge comprising a jamb member; a door member mounted from the jamb member for hinging movement; a link pivotally mounted at one end on the jamb member; a coil spring connected at one end to the other end of the link, and at its other end to the door member for coaction withthe link in urging the door member to a closed position in reference to a door; and action with the link in urging the door member means co-aetable With the link to arrest pivotal to a closed position in reference to a door; means movement thereof in, a predetermined open posico-actable with the link to arrest pivotal movetion of the door member beyond which the action Inent thereof in a predetermined open position of Y 5 of the spring will be reversed so as to urge the the door member beyondwhieh the action of the 5 door member to a further open'position. spring Will be reversel so as to urge the door! 10.
