v Application June Z7, 193.8, Serial No. 215,951 e claims'. (ci. sti- 63) This invention relates to' improvements in a trate a preferred embodiment of my invention, it memorandum device toI be mounted on a wall or will be seen that this device comprises a wooden other suitable support proximate a telephone, frame having two side rails IIB, each of which is including for example, public telephone booths or provided with a tenon II formed on the upper 5 the like upon which memoranda may be made end thereof and adapted tov t into suitable 5 whereby ysaid device is adapted to serve among mortises formed in a top piece I2. A bottom rail other things as a deterrent to the tendency on i3 having a tenen I4 on each end thereof and the part of many persons to deface the walls and' adapted to fit respectively into mortses formed furniture nearthe telephone. lin the lower end of veach of the side rails I0,
An important object of my invention is to concompieteS the frame StTnCU-Ie.
' 15 ready removal thereof.
struct a device of the class described so that the 1i? Wiii be undeiStOOd the@ the frame may be means for fastening the same to a wail or any made of any suitable material other than wood, other suitable support will be more or less coneS herein described, and indeed may be mede 0f ceaied or relatively inaccessible to prevent the any Suitable material in the form of a one piece structure such for example as by molding the A further object of my invention. is to produce Seme elli? 0f DleStiC materiel. a device of the class described in which a piate A dove-tail rabbet lli-I6 is suitably out in or card bearing an advertising legend may be each rail It to provide a means for slidably reymounted therein by means readily permitting CeiVing e Deir 0f Plates ii end i3, OI DllIDOSeS 20 from time to time, the removal and replacement to l,be hereinafter described. The side edgesA of 20 40 Figure 3 is a bottom View ofthe device shown ai Suitable Supportthereof by a, plate having a @intgrent legend these plates are beveled at I9 to cooperate with, stili a further object is to provide in a device and S0 aS to be retained in place bv, the surface of the vclass described a surface upon vwhich to i5 0f the Tebbets'- make memoranda and from which the Same 'AS Shown in Figure 2 e giOOVe 20 iS OIIned in be erased or wiped off with a damp cloth or` the top plete I2 to provide a support for a cigar, 25 the 1ikecigarette or pencil. This view also illustrates other objects and advantages of my invention that the front ksurface of the bottom rail I3 is will either become apparent or be specically reiDCeted in iile Seine Diane 21S the Surface i6 of ferred to in the following description thereof the fab-bei? for releasing the holding means shown in Fig- On the back near the lower edge of the plate nre 4, IB, projections 32 are formed Whichvare adapted 55 Referring now to the drawing in which I illusto fit into notches '33 formed vin the bottom rail i3. By means of screws 34 passing through the projections 32 and into the bottom rail the plate E8 is held in position. Being thus located the screws are usually below the level of the eye and therefore inconspicuous and relatively concealed.
From the foregoing, it will be understood that any suitable advertising legend may be pasted, printed or otherwise displayed on the plate Il, and that such advertising legend may be changed from time to time by removing the screws 34, withdrawing the plate I8 and thereafter removing the plate Il and substituting therefor a similar plate carrying other advertising.
The lower part of the front surface of plate I8 is treated in any suitable way to form a surface 35 upon which matches may be struck, such for instance as having cemented or otherwise secured thereon a suitable composition or indeed roughening the surface of the plate itself. The remainder of the surface of the plate I8, is'such that memoranda may be written thereon and easily erased by any suitable means, such as by a. damp cloth.
In the construction of my device, I preferably mold the plates I1 and I8 of a suitable plastic material, but it will be understood that any other suitable material may be used, such for example as any suitable paper means or paper board having a suitably prepared surface.
Referring now to Figures i and 5, in which parts similar to those above described are indicated by similar characters, it will be seen that instead of the projections 32 and screws 34 for retaining the plate I 8 in position, I provide means entirely concealed behind the plates, such for eX- ample as a notch 38 formed in the back of the plate iS adapted to cooperate with the upper end of a leaf spring 39 secured in any suitable way to the back of the lower rail i3 or confined between said rail and the frame support. The front portion of the lower rail I3 over the hole 21 in the modification shown in Figure 4 is cut out as at 40 to provide a rectangular aperture through which a tool such as shown in Figure 6 may be inserted from a point outside the frame, and by which the spring E9 may be pressed away from the plate I8 and out of engagement with the notch 38 and permit the same to be withdrawn. One advantage of this method of securing the plate I B in the device is that it is less obvious how the plate may be removed and particularly how the spring 39 may be moved to inoperative position and thus prevent the removal of the plates l1 and I8 by persons not authorized to do so. It will be understood that the device shown in Figure 4 may be assembled by pushing the plates I7 and I8 into the grooves as above described until the spring 39 drops automatically into the notch 3B, a position which may be described as their home position.
While I have described what now seems to be the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is conceivable that various modifications in the configuration, composition and disposition of the component parts going to make up the same may occur to those skilled in the art, and that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details may be resorted to within the scope of my invention.
What is claimed is:
