SerialNo. 193,517 I 4 Claims. (Cl. 91-54.4)
This invention relates to a composition of matter preferably in the form of a pencil or stick for lubricating and filling the threads and spaces between the threads of woven or knit garments at the places where wear comes and to strengthen the material, reduce the effect of friction and f wear and thereby preserve the garment for a longer period. j The composition consists of the following ingredients prepared in the following Way:
One pound of paraffin wax, one to two drams of what is known as fullers earth, which is an impure hydrous aluminium silicate, and fortyfive grains of powdered gum arabic, together with ten drops oil of lavender.
The composition is made by melting the parafiin and as soon as it starts to melt by stirring in and thoroughly mixing with it, powdered fullers earth and powdered gum arabic 2 until both have been dispersed through the paraffin and so melted and mixed and by then adding the oil of lavender and thoroughly stirring that in. I
The composition is then poured into suitable 2 molds to form sticks of a size to be easily held Each stick may be wrapped,
in the fingers.
wholly 'or partly in paper, tin foil or Cellophane,
or it may be held in a case made of paper or metal. 7
80 It is applied to such articles of apparel as stockings, especially of silk or rayon, by rubbing the end of the stick gently both on the outside and on the inside, of the heel andof the toe, when not on the person and while thearticle is rested 35 on a hard surface, orv by rubbing on the outside only when the article is on the person.
The fullers earth and parafiin held together by the gum arabic form a. tough, elastic, smooth composition which fills in between the fibres of the threads and between the threads themselves.
It keeps the fibres and the threads from being caught or displaced by anything rubbing against the garment and from breaking, raveling or pulling out.
The parafiin and the essential oil keep the surface smooth and this smoothness is increased by rubbing. Other essential oils may be used in place of the oil of lavender. 1
When washing the article, the fullers earth helps to release the composition so that the garment can be restored to its natural, flexible, clean condition and freefrom objectionable smell.
We claim:
1. A stick for protecting silk and. rayon garments made of one pound of paraflin, one to two drams of fullers earth, forty-five grains of gum arabic and ten drops oil of lavender, all thoroughly mixed together.- i 2 2. A stick for protecting garments made of ,parafi'in wax, fullers earth, gum arabic and an essential oil, thoroughly mixed in the proportion of one pound of paraffin, one to two drams'of fullers earth, forty-five grains of gum arabicand ten drops of an essential oil.
3. A stick for protecting silk and rayon garments made of onepound of paraflin, two drams of fullers earth and forty-five grainsof gum arabic, all thoroughly mixed together while the so paraffin is melted. v
4. A knitted rayon or silk stocking having a part where a composition made up of 5760 grains of parafiin, 120 grains of iullers earth and 45 grains of gum arabic covers one side of the threads and part of the space between. I
