This invention relates to improvements in metogether. The lower edges of the side panels tallic receptacles, and the objects of the invenare bent to form inwardly and 'upwardly extion are to improve the construction of waste tending flanges l5, and the bottom. plate I2 is baskets or--analogous receptacles made from provided with down-bent edge flanges [6 which sheet metal; also to provide a waste basket or. seat in the grooves formed by the flanged bot- 'the like of simple but. strong and durable contom edges of the. side panels, thereby securing struction' and attractive appearance composed the bottom? plate It in position to form the. ofsheet metal side panels connected by corner bottom of the basket; v strips which fcrm supporting legs or feet at the .Ihe cornerfstrips ll extend downwardly below 10 corner's ofthe basket; also to provide the basket the bottom lzsand the bottom edges .of the side 10 witha rimbumper or cushioned rim of improved panels, and'have their lower ends bent or curved construction which gives a desirable finish to inwardly, thusflformingdownwardly projecting the basket and forms a resilient or yielding legswithinbent or curved feet at the corners bumper which surrounds the upper edge of the of the basket which support the body of the basket to prevent the marring oi the surfaces I basket ofi of-thelloor. As and are adapted to interlock with the flanges of shown, the cushion band has a. portion which the side panels, thereby forming lock seams fits into and fills the channel of the member'II, which secure the side panels and corner strips and is formed with a narrow, inwardly opening 5 groove 22 into which the top flange of the channel member fits, so that the upper portion of the cushion band embraces and covers the outer portion of the top flange of the channel member with portions of the cushion band lying outwardly beyond and above the top flange of the channel member. This formation of the cushion band insures a secure retention of the same in place on the rim and also forms a resilient cushion which surrounds and extends somewhat above the top of the metal rim so as to provide a very complete protection for the rim which will prevent marring of the top edge portions as well as the sides of the rim and body of the basket. By extruding the band l8 in the sectional shape shown, a resilient covering for the top edge of the basket is obtained which will not only protect the basket against sidewise knocks, but also against top damage when emptying the basket. The band can be cemented in place on the channel rim, although its novel shape will ensure its reention in place without requiring it to be secured by cementing.
Definite advantages of the described assembly are that it eliminates spot-Welding of the corner pieces to the panels, provides additional strength, makes possible the use of lighter weight metal and improves the appearance of the basket. The inwardly folded edges of the corner "trips form smooth, finished side edges for the legs and feet.
I claim as my invention:
1. A receptacle comprising plural, upright sheet metal side panels arranged wi h the side edges of adjacent panels separated by a space of substantial width, and upright corner strips of concave-convex cross section bridging and closing the spaces between said side panels, said panels and corner strips having folded side edges which are interlocked to secure the panels and corner strips ogether, said corner strips forming broad rounded corners for the receptacle between adjacent side panels and having their lower end portions projecting below the bottom ends of the side panels and curved downwardly and inwardly away from the lower ends of the panels and forming depending continuous unbroken supporting legs and feet for the receptacle having convexed outer and bottom surfaces for supporting contact with the floor, and a bottom and rim for the receptacle attached to said side panels.
2. A receptacle comprising plural upright sheet metal side panels arranged with the side edges of adjacent panels separated by a space of substantial width, and upright corner strips of curved cross section bridging and closing the spaces between said side panels, said strips terminating at their upper ends below the upper ends of said side panels, a bottom plate between and attached to said side panels, and a rim member surrounding the upper end portion of the receptacle above the upper ends of saidcorner strips and secured to the upper end portions of said side panels and forming an outwardly projecting rim for the receptacle, said rim member being of channel form having outwardly directed upper and lower flanges and a cushioning band held between said flanges, and said rim member having a longitudinal bead at its upper inner corner ofiset inwardly therefrom and overhanging and covering the upper edges of said side panels.
3. A receptacle comprising a bottom, and upright walls formed by separate sheet metal side panels and corner strips of concavo-convex cross section between and connecting said side panels and forming rounded corners for the receptacle, said corner strips terminating at their upper ends below the upper ends of said side panels, and a rim bumper comprising a channel member surrounding and projecting outwardly from the upper end portion of the receptacle beyond the upright walls of the receptacle above the upper ends of said corner pieces and secured to the upwardly projecting portions of said side panels and having outwardly directed upper and lower flanges, and a resilient cushioning band confined and secured in the channel member between said flanges and having an upper'peripheral portion which surrounds and projects upwardly above the outer edge of the upper flange of said channel member, whereby saidcushioning band is held in place in the channel and covers said outer edge and protects the upper face of said upper flange from being marred.
