This inventionrelates to improvements in garment bags and more particularly to that type of bag having an open bottom, through which a garment on a hanger is inserted therein, and an opening at thetop through which the hook of the garment hanger projects.

, It is well known that the application of such bags over a garment is a very tedious and inconvenient operation and that it is very difficult to apply the bags over a garment Without tearing them.

Various means have been heretofore devised for aiding in the operation of applying such bags over a garment in such places as dry cleaning establishments. Other means have been devised for use with each individual bag, but such means have been designed to provide only for a single application of the bag; it being accepted that the .bag was to be applied over the garment only temporarily and that when the garment was removed therefrom the bag would not be used again.

An object of my invention is to provide a bag having means which are a permanent part of the bag so that the said means may be used repeatedly for aiding in inserting a garment into the'bag or removing it therefrom.

Other objects and advantages of my invention 'may be clearly understood from the following description and from the accompanying drawing in which:

Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a garment bag embodying my invention.

Figure 2 is a view in vertical section thereof on line 22 of Figure 1'.

Figure 3 is a similar view showing a modified form of a bag embodying my invention.

Figure 4 is a front view of the said modified form illustrating one manner in which the same may be used.

As illustrated in the drawing, the numeral 5 denotes a garment bag of a conventional form which is usually constructed of paper and whichv is open at the bottom 6 and has an opening 1 at the top thereof through which the hook of a garment hanger may project so that the garment, together with the bag thereover maybe hung in a convenient manner.

My invention consists of providing a tape, or cord 8 of any suitable material, which is secured at one end thereof, as at 9, to the outside of the bag and at a distance from the opening I. The said tape extends upwardly from the point at which it is secured to the bag, downwardly through the opening 1, through the bag, and

I prefer to extend the upper portion of the tape 8 to a distance above the'topof the bag so that it will form a loop I I which will facilitate the use of said tape in the manner to'be hereinafter described.

As illustrated in Figure 1, the end 9 of the tape is fastened to the bagby means of a sticker l2 which consists of a small sheet of paper, or other 10 suitable material, having an adhesive applied at one side thereof by means of which the same is secured uponthesurface of the bag and to the end of the tape 8. If preferred, the said tape may be secured also by means of wire clips such as indicated at l3. The loop H1 at the lower end of the tape may be provided by doubling the end thereof and tying a knot therein as indicated at H. However, the said loop may also be formed, as illustrated in the modified form illustrated in Figures '3 and 4, by doubling the tape for the entire length thereof and securing the two ends together to the bag.

In the use of my invention, the bag is applied over the garment which is usually supported on ,a hanger having a hook as indicated at 15. The

said hook is hung on the loop I 0 at the lower end of the tape or cord and the tape is then pulled upwardly, by means of the downwardly depending portion of the loop ll, thus raising the garment into the bag and at the same time lowering the bag over the garment. When. the'bag has reached its proper position over the garment, the hook l5, will extend through the opening in the top thereof and the tape will be in a position wherein it will hang downwardly on the outside of the bag and may remain in said position during the time that the said bag remains over the garment. When the garment is to be, removed from the inside of the bag, the tape 8 will be 40 already in position for use and the said garment may be removed by an operation which is simply the reverse of that above described.

If desired, my invention may be used, as illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawing, by hanging the bag over a supporting member It, by means of the loop H. The garment is then hung to the tape in the above described manner and the tape is pulled downwardly by its upper end, thus pulling the tape up around the support, raising the garment and, at the same time, lowering the bag over it.

It may readily be seen, that when the tapes or cords of certain materials are used, the loop II as shown in the drawing, may not be present 1. A garment bag of the character described having an open bottom, an opening in the top' thereof and a tape or cord permanently secured to the outside of said'bag and extending downwardly therethrough to a point'below'the bottom thereof.

A bag of the character described having an open bottom and an opening in the top thereof, a tape or cord secured thereto at the outside of the bag and at a distance from the said opening, the said tape or cord extending upwardly on the outside of said bag and downwardly through said opening and having a loop projecting below the bottom of said bag.

5. A bottom-less garment bag of the character described having an opening therein and a looped tape or cord secured to the outside of said bag by its ends and extending downwardly through said opening.

6. A garment bag of the character described having an open bottom and an opening in the top thereof and comprising a tape or cord permanently secured thereto at the outside thereof, the said tape or cord being adapted to hang downwardly between the sides of said bag and to a point below the bottom thereof and means on said tape or cord for attaching a hook thereto.
