Description

Jan. 9, 1940. R. F. DANIEL 2,
PITCHER Filed March 27, 1939 Inventor 3y 2mm A itomeys Patented Jan. 9, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE rrrcmm Raymond F. Daniel, Champaign, Ill. Application March 27, 1939, Serial No. 264,455
1 Claim.
Referring to the drawing, wherein like numerll als designate like parts, it can be seen that the pitcher as constructed consists of the bottom 5 and the sidewall A which consists of the upwardly flaring portion 6 merging with the upwardly converging portion 1. The front side of the pitcher 20 has the backwardly formed wall 8 which extends downwardly from the lip 9 and terminates at the point l0 which also forms the bottom of the pocket defined by the lower portion of the front wall 8 and the outwardly inclined wall I l which is subll stantially flush with the lower portion 6 of the wall A. A short upwardly extending portion I2 is provided for the wall II, and this portion I2 is disposed inwardly as at l3.
The depressed wall 8 converges upwardly merging with the narrow upwardly tapering channelway9 H which terminates in the under side of the lip Thus it can be seen that after cream or other 5 liquid has been poured from the pitcher, any drops remaining on the lip which have a tendency to fall off will run down the channel-way l4 and drop into the pocket l5. Thus the milk is caught and prevented from falling onto and soiling table-cloths 10 and other surfaces.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing I from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter. Y
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In a pitcher construction comprising a container wall, a lip at the upper portion of the wall,
a pocket provided at the outside of the wall and underlying the lip, said wall being indented at its portion opposed to the pocket, said indented portion extending upwardly and gradually tapering to terminate at the overflowing edge of the said lip at the underside thereof.
