Owen F. Steward, North Woodbury, N. J.
Application October 18, 1938, Serial No. 235,647
1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvements in dis pensing containers for use more particularly in dispensing salt, although, as will presently appear, it may be used with equal advantage in 5 dispensing other granular substances, also toothpaste and liquid soap.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an efiicient, inexpensive container of the class above indicated equipped with easily operative manipulative means for positively breaking up caked contents in the container and feeding the same therefrom.
My invention also comprehends other and subordinate objects, all of which, together With the precise nature of my improvement will be readily understood when the succeeding description and claim are read with reference to the drawing accompanying and forming part of this specification;
In said drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a dis pensing container forming a preferred embodiment of my invention.
Figure 2 is a view in vertical longitudinal section.
Figure 3 is a View in top plan.
Figure 4 is a view in transverse section taken on the line 44 of Figure 2 looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Figure 5 is a similar view taken onthe line 55 of Figure 2 looking in the direction indicated by the arrows. J
Referring to the drawing by numerals, and first to Figures 1 to 5 thereof, the container of my invention in the preferred embodiment thereof comprises a preferably cylindrical receptacle I of any suitable material closed at its bottom, as at 2, and having a reduced externally threaded neck 3. Threaded onto the neck 3 is a cap-like spider 4 comprising a central hub 5 and pro- -vided in the top thereof with a series of large openings 6 grouped around said spider. Surmounting the spider 4- is a foraminous spray cap 1 having an internal edge flange 8 fitting loosely into a circular groove 9 provided in the sideof the spider 4. A headed screw l extends through the cap I and hub into a socket ll provided on one end of a helical blade l2 preferably ter-- minating short of the bottom 2 of the receptacle I. The screw ID has a squared part l3 fitting into a correspondingly shaped opening M in the cap 1 whereby said cap is keyed-to said screw. The screw! is threaded, as shown in dotted 5 lines, tightly into the socket II and the blade l2 clears the spider 4 and the inner periphery of the receptacle I.
As will now be seen, the cap is rotatably' mounted on the spider 4 so that under rotation 10 of said cap in the proper direction the blade i2 will be rotated throughthe medium or the screw 7 It to break up the contents of the container I and feed the same out of the openings band also out of the cap I. 15
In the described embodiment of the invention, it will be noted that the cap 'l-will be prevented from becoming clogged by rotation over the spider 4. Also the end of the blade 12 adjacent to the spider 4 is likewise ,formed'stra'ight to 20 keep the openingfi clear.
My invention will, it is believed, be readily understood from the foregoing without further explanation.
Manifestly, the invention as described, is sus- 25 ceptible of modification in other respects than as disclosed herein and right is herein reserved to such other modifications as fallwithin thescope of the subjoined claim.
' What I claim is:
A dispensing container comprising a receptacle having a cylindrical externally threaded neck, a cap-like spider having'a hubpart and circular discharge apertures therein grouped about said part and a circular edge flange threaded onto 35 said neck and provided with a circumferential groove therein, a circular foraminous spray "cap fitting flush over said spider and having. a rightangled continuous edge flange fitting into said groove and permanently locking said cap to said 4 spider for rotation'thereon, a helical blade in said receptacle, and a stud having its opposite ends fixed in said cap and one end of said blade, respectively, and extending loosely through said hub, whereby said blade is rotatable by 45 said cap.
OWEN F. STEWARD.
