This invention relates to receptacles and has particular reference to an improved receptacle of the character having a sliding closure or door.
Sliding door receptacles heretofore have been constructed with the closure or door slidable upwardly from a closed condition to an opened condition and longitudinally bendable during the sliding thereof so as to dispose a portion of the closure projecting rearwardly below the top of the receptacle and the extreme end thereof 'depending parallel with and adjacent to the rear wall thereof when in opened condition.
In some instances it has been dimcult to move thedoor of such receptacle to opened condition due to the fact that clothing suspended on hangers adjacent the top wall thereof would obstruct the free movement of the portions projecting rearwardly beneath the top wall and downwardly adjacent the rear wall.
The invention therefore aims to provide a receptacle of the indicated character which overcomes the above objections by providing a 010- sure which is slidable downwardly from closed to opened relation and which is longitudinally bendable to dispose the lower portion of the closure when in opened condition in juxtaposition to the bottom wall of the container and out of the way of the garments supported on hangers therein.
lhe invention further provides a receptacle having longitudinal guides at opposite sides of the mouth opening and a transversely corrugated closure panel downwardly slidable in the guides from closed to opened relation and which panel is longitudinally bendable for disposing the lower portion of the container in juxtaposition to the bottom wall of the container when in opened relation.
The invention further embodies inwardly directed longitudinal front wall portions formed integral with the side walls thereof and inwardly directed transverse front wall portions formed integral with the top wall thereof, and framing means connected to the front wall portions to provide a mouth opening for admitting articles to or removing the same from the receptacle and a longitudinally bendable closure slidable in opposite sides of the framing means to and from opened and closed condition.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, reference is now made to the following specification and the accompanying drawings in which there is illustrated the preferred embodiments of the invention.

Referring by characters of reference to the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive of the drawings, the receptacle includes a foldable body section comprising a rear wall l0, oppositely disposed side walls ii and if as hingedly connected to and integral with the rear wall, and oppositely disposed inwardly directed front wall portions i3 and M hingedly connected to and integral with the side walls ii and i2 respectively. an
The receptacle also includes top and bottom sections which form the end walls it") and i5 and which are provided with inwardly directed marginal flanges ii telescopically fitting over the opposite ends of the rear wall it and side walls i i 35 ing rigid strips 2! constructed of wood or other 5 rigid material which are secured to the outer surfaces thereof adjacent their inner longitudinal edges and have their confronting longitudinal inner edges rabbeted to provide with the front wall portions-longitudinally extending grooves 22. The inwardly directed front wall portions i8 and H are also-provided with rigid transverse strips 23 constructed of wood or other rigid material and which have their rear faces longitudinally rabbeted as at 24 to receive the inner transverse edges of the said front wall portions.
The front wall portions l8 and 19, together with the transverse strips 23, overlie the opposite ends of the front wall portions l3 and I4, while the strips 23 are notched as at 25 to receive therein the opposite ends of the strips 2| and to retain the said strips in fixed relation with the strips 23 to provide therewith a closure opening for admitting articles to or removing the same from the receptacle.
The receptacle is further provided with a longitudinaliy bendable closure panel 26 preferably formed of a single face transversely corrugated cardboard, the opposite longitudinal side edges of which are slidable in the grooves 22 for opening and closing the receptacle. The closure panel 26 is folded over upon itself at its opposite ends and has reenforcing strips 21 and 28 of wood or other rigid material secured thereto between the panel and the folded over end portions. The uppermost end of the panel 26 is slidable in the grooves 22 to a position between the inwardly directed portions I3 and H and the inwardly directed portion l8 and its strip 23 to seal the upper end of the closu're'when in closed condition, the upper ends of the strips 2| being each provided with an extension 29 of reduced widthand thickness. By this construction the extensions 29 protrude beneath the front wall portion l8 and the strip 23 to define a clearance space for receiving the upper end portion of the closure panel 26.
The lower ends of the strips 2| are likewise each provided with an extension 30 of reducedwidth and thickness which protrudes beneath the front wall portion [9 and its strip 23 to define a clearance space between the front wall portions l3 and I4 and the front wall portion l9 for receiving the lower end of the closure panel 26. The closure panel 26 is slidable in the grooves 22 from closed condition as illustrated in Fig. 2, to opened condition with the lower portion thereof projecting rearwardly and overlying and supported upon the bottom wall l6 of the receptacle, as illustrated in Fig. 4. When moved from closed to opened relation, the lower portion of the panel is deflected into overlying relationship with the bottom wall by means of a deflector 3| secured to the inside face of the front wall portion l9 and having a hingedly connected terminal 32 projecting rearwardly and engaging against the bottom wall l6 at an angle thereto. As the closure 26 moves out of the lower ends of the grooves 22 during the movement thereof to and from opened and closed relation, the same slides at the rear of the front portion l9 and in front of the front portions l3 and I4 adjacent the inner edges thereof.
The lower ends of the front portions l3 and M are recessed as at 33 to allow the lower portion of the closure to pass through said recesses and to engage the angular terminal 32 of the deflector 3|. A flexible strap 34 is secured to the closure 26 adjacent the upper end which is provided with a fastening element 35 adapted to engage a cooperating securing element 36 on the upper strip 23 for securing the closure in closed condition. The end sections and the body section are secured together in set up relation by means of fastening elements 31 extending through the flanges I1 and 20 and the body section adjacent the ends thereof.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6, the inwardly directed portions 40 and ll of the top and bottom sections are similarly provided with transversely extending strips 42 secured to the inner transverse edges thereof, while the longitudinally extending opposite front wall portions 43 and 44 of the body section are provided with longitudinally extending rigid strips 45 secured to the inner surfaces thereof adjacent their inner longitudinal edges and have their confronting longitudinal inner edges rabbeted to provide with the said front wall portions longitudinally extending grooves 46 for receiving the longitudinal edges of the closure panel 41 in which the same is slidable to and from opened and closed condition. In this form of the invention, the lower ends of the strips 45 are spaced from the bottom wall 48 to allow the lower portion of the closure to engage a deflector 49 for deflecting the same into overlying relationship with the bottom wall 48.
In the forms of the invention illustrated the walls of the body and end sections, and the flanges and inwardly directed front wall portions thereof, are preferably constructed of corrugated cardboard, paperboard and the like.
What is claimed is:
In a receptacle, a hollow body structure including a body section composed-of a rear wall, side walls hingedly connected to the rear wall and inwardly directed longitudinally extending front wall portions hinged to the side walls respectively, top and bottom sections having hingedly connected flanged forward edges providing inwardly directed transversely extending front wall portions overlying the longitudinally extending front wall portions at the ends thereof, said transversely extending front wall portions having hingedly connected rearwardly directed flanged side edges engaging over the side walls of the body section, said front wall portions having rigid strips secured thereto along their inner edges, the strips of the transversely extending front wall portions being notched to receive therein the ends of the strips of the longitudinally extending front wall portions to retain the same in fixed relation and to provide therewith a closure opening for admitting articles to or removing the same from the receptacle, said longitudinally extending strips being rabbeted to provide guideways with the said longitudinally extending wall portions, a longitudinally bendable closure panel downwardly slidable in said guideways, and means secured to the lower transversely extending front wall portion having a hingedly connected terminal projecting rearwardly and engaging against the bottom wall of the bottom section at an angle thereto for guiding the lower portion of the closure into overlying relationship With the bottom wall when the same is moved into opened condition.
