Be it known that I, CHARLOTTE A. VON (JORT, 0f Washington, in the county 0f Washington and District of Oolumbia, have invented eertain new and useful Improvements in Sewing-Machine Treadles; and I d0 hereby declare that the following is a full, cleam, and exact deseription 0f the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to wh1'eh it appertains to ma-ke and use the smne, referenee being had t0 the aecompanying drawings and t0 letters ot referenee marked thereon, whieh form a pent 0f this speeifieation.

A description of the beneficial results t0 operators 0f sewing-machines from the use 0f the improved treadle ean be seen bv reference to the patent herein referred to.
In the aceompanying drawings like parts are denoted by like letters of referenee in the different figures.
A marks a treadle 01 covering for an ordinary iron treadle 0f a sewing-maehine, made 0f wood, papier-maeh6, 01 other similar material, and is attaehed directly t0 the t0p 0f an ordinary ir0n treadle, as shown in the drawings, 01 t0 a Lreadle-bar, by meens of one 0r more seeuriug-plates attached t0 the lower side v 0f the treadle, and which inclose the treadlebar. The ends 0f the treadle are sprang apwardly, t0 prov1de bearing-surfaces to prevent the feet trom slipping, as weil as to adapt them 130 be attached to ordinary treadles.
The treadle shown in the drawings, eonsisting 0f two 0r m0re layers of veneers, with the grain 0f one layer crosswise that of the other, am] suitably shaped in erden t0 adapt it t0 treadles of difterenl; styles, I find t0 be the simplest am]. cheapest.

Hzwing thus described my invention, what I elaim, and desire t0 secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A treadle Sprung upwardly at its ends, eonstructed 0f' w0od, papier mache, 01 their equivnlents, in eombixmtiun with an iron treadle 01 treadle-bar, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combinarion, with an iron treadle, 0f the veneers A, eonstructed as described, plates B, and holte O, substantially as shown and deseribed. 1
3. As a new article ofmanufacture, a treadle construeted ot' two er more veneers, with the grains. crossing each other, combined and adapted for use with a treadle or treadle-bar, substan tially as shown and desenbed.
