This application is specincally directed to a further improvement of a rotor system wherein an induction principle is combined with centrifugal force. The rotor system has a corona shield interposed between the fixed and movable elements to reduce corona.

The invention will best be understood by referring to the accompanying drawing, in which:

Referring now in detail to Fig. 1, a metallic cylindrical tube I is grounded through a conductor 2, which conductor may be in the alter- 10 native, if desired, connected to a relatively high source of potential. A mixture 3 of metallic powder and some insulating material, such as bronze powder and oil, is caused to fall to the surface of the rotating disc 4. 'I'he metallic par- 18 ticles are charged up and driven out by centrifugal force to the outer metallic plate or annular collector 5. Disc 4 is rapidly rotated by a shaft 6. However, this shaft is insulatedly supported` upon the motor shaft 'I by insulation block 8, 20 so that the source of potential may be impressed upon the shaft by brush 9, which potential turn manifests itself upon metallic disc 4. Centrifugal force will therefore drive the oil and metal powder mixture horizontally between the rotating 25 disc 4 and the stationary disc I0, into the interior of the shell 5, having an outlet I2 throughwhich the oil may fall into a` suitable piping system I3 for passage again into pipe I. The oil and metallic mixture becoming charged up by 30 the conductor will, in turn, deposit its charge on the interior surface of the shell 5, as a result of which higher voltages may be generated in this system, as compared with the arrangement shown in my earlier applications, andias a result there- 35 of, there will be a tendency for a corona discharge to be built up. To overcome the disastrous effects which may result from the corona, a second metallic element is interposed between the xed and rotating elements. 'I'his added ele- 40 ment is in the form of Ytwo metallic rings I4 and I5, which are insulatedly supported by member 5 and insulated therefrom by insulating rings IB and I'I. 'Ihe rings .I4 and I5 may be electrically` connected to the stationary disc I0 by 45 metallic strips II, or any other suitable means, if desired, may be connected to the rotating discs l or 20 by suitable brushes (not shown) In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2*, the lower disc 2li is provided with an upper surface 2| of 5o insulating material. The oil from pipe I is preferably in this case pure oil. High voltages impressed upon shaft 6 through brush 9 will cause corona discharge at points 22 carried by the up per metallic plate III. The insulating material MZI,
however, will prevent short-circuiting' of the corona discharge to the metallic plate 20. In this way, still higher charges 'for the annular collector 5 may be obtained. The system shown in Fig. 2, therefore, utilizes for charging the liquid mdium an induction principle. l
Various other changes will readily Suggest themselves to those skilled in the art in carrying out the principles of my present invention. Therefore, my present invention is not to be considered limited by the various illustrations which are given merely as specific examples, but is to charging said liquid, and means including said able surfaces, a metallic 'ring surrounding said fixed and movable surfaces and said corona shield, means foiifeeding a liquid containing metallic powder on said movable surface, means for Imetallic ring for discharging said liquid after being thrown out from saidl movable surface' by centrifugal force.

A high voltage generator comprising a fixed ,surface and a pair of movable discs, one of said discs being of insulating material and the other disc being "of conducting -material and fastened to an insulating hub located on a rotatable shaft for moving said discs, a corona shield comprising a pair of metallic rings surrounding said discs, another ring member outside said pair of metallic rings, means for feeding a liquid on thel surface of 'said movable disc, means for chargingv said liquid,- and means for discharging said liquid after bei "nir u fr 1 ns own o 't om sa' d disc. by centrifugal atively fixed surface and a movable surface, a metallic corona shield surrounding said fixed andforce.

A high voltage generator comprising a relatively fixed surface and a movable surface, a ring surrounding the periphery of said movable surface, a second ring insulatedly supported by said first mentioned ring and interposed between the periphery of said movable surface and said rst mentioned ring to act as a corona shield, means for feeding` a liquid on said movable surface, means for charging said liquid, and means for discharging said liquidafter being thrown out from said movable surface by centrifugal force.

A high voltage generator comprising a relatively fixed surface and a movable surface, a ring surrounding the periphery of said movable surface, a pair of rings interposed between the periphery of said movable surface and said first `mentioned ring to act as a corona shield, means for feeding a liquid on said movable surface, means for charging said liquid, and means including said first mentioned ring for discharging said liquid after being thrown out from said movable surface by centrifugal force.

A high voltage generator comprising a fixed and a movable surface, a corona shield surround- "ing the periphery of ,said movable surface, a metallic ring surrounding said corona, shield, means for feeding a liquid on said movable surface, means for charging said liquid, and means for discharging saiddiquid after being thrown out from said movable surface by centrifugal force.

A high voltage generator comprising a relatively fixed metallic surface and a movable insulating surface, a corona shield surrounding the periphery of said movable insulating surface, a metallic ring surrounding said corona shield, means for feeding a liquid on said movable srface, means for charging said liquid, and means including said metallic ring for discharging said liquid after being thrown out from said movable liquid, and .means for discharging said liquid x after .being thrown" out from. said movable surface by centrifugal force.
