1 Claim.
My invention relates to building material and more particularly to the type of material that may be employed for constructing floors and Walls.
The object of my invention is to provide material that is composed of a plastic composition reenforced with an arrangement of meshed metal.
Another object of my invention is to construct the reenforcing mesh in a manner that will produce vertical metal walls interlocked with one another so as to provide maximum strength when used for floors or the like.
Still another object of my invention is to provide vertical sections of metal forming a plurality of rectangular enclosures with apertures to permit the plastic material to be forced from one enclosure to the other thereby assuring an even distribution of material.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a vertical section of metal with staggered auxiliary members disposed at right angle to the vertical sections thereby preventing the plastic material from being forced through the rectangular enclosure when pressure is applied to the surface.
It is manifest to anyone familiar with the art that fibrous materials mixed with a liquid binder may be used to produce a desirable light-weight building material that has excellent insulating and acoustical properties, but this material, due to the very nature of its construction, has but very little strength unless sufficiently supported, by inserting a reenforcement consisting of several metal strips interlocked with one another and placed so that the sheet metal is in a vertical position and perforated to provide access from one enclosure to the other, the plastic material will thus have a tendency to distribute evenly over the entire area and be of equal consistency in all of the enclosures formed by the metal, when pressure is applied to the plastic material. In this manner the plastic material, when allowed to harden due to a drying process, will support the sheet metal strips on all sides thereby allowing maximum strength with minimum weight and producing a material that may be placed over joists or be supported by angle irons, thereby lending itself ideally as a support for a wood or composition ioor. The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing is a part and in which the separate parts of my improvements are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of the metal reenforcing structure, forming separate enclosures and provided with a plurality of staggeredly arranged members bent at right angle to the metal walls to prevent the plastic material from forcing its way through When pressure is applied.
Fig. 2 is a side View of Fig. 1 illustrating the manner in which the apertures may be arranged" and also the manner in which the vertical walls are slotted to telescopically support one another.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a section of the assembled reeniorcing structure prior to the plastic material being applied, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the reenforcing structure embedded into plastic material having matched floor boards adherently applied 15 to its top.
Referring to the drawing in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference It illustrates a plastic composition composed of fibrous material adherently joined by means of a liquid binder having adherent qualities. There is a reenforcing unit consisting of sheet metal strips II and I2 slo-tted at I3 and telescopically engaging and supporting one another thereby forming rectangular enclosures i4. The members II and I2 are held in a vertical position by slots I3 and have horizontally disposed members I5 integral with and bent at right angle to the members I I and i2. The members I5 retain the plastic composition in the enclosure I4. The members II and I2 are further provided with a plurality of apertures i6 which permit the plastic composition to force itself from one enclosure to the other thereby allowing an even distribution over the entire area and when the plastic material I0 is allowed to harden, due to a drying process, the plastic material in its various enclosures will be one integral mass adherently joined and held in position.
If desired a floor covering of boards ll or any other composition may be placed over the surface of the plastic material and be retained in position by means of an adhesive binder or in any other convenient manner.
It is obvious that the metal mesh consisting of sheet metal held in an upright position affords great strength and support for the plastic material, and as this material is forced with equal pressure into all enclosures it will prevent the metal from bending or distorting when pressure 50 is applied.
While I have herein disclosed with considerable particularity a single embodiment of my invention, it will be manifest to persons skilled in the art, that many changes in the general arrange- 55 ment, form, and conguration of the structure may be made and parts thereof may be varied within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent in the United States, is:
A building material of the character described comprising reinforcing members of fiat metal vertically disposed and arranged in angular inm tertting relation to one another so as to form rectangular enclosures, said vertical members having spaced right angle members alternately disposed at the loWer edge to provide integral support members for retaining a plastic composition between said vertical members, said Vertical members further having apertures adjacent the upper and lower edges to allow the plastic material to ilow evenly into all rectangular enclosures.
