Applicaties August l11, 193s, serial No. 224,396
2 claims. (c1. 27s-9s) This invention relates to a game device and it consists in the constructions, arrangements and combinations herein described and claimed.
It is an object of the invention to provide a game device in which a tethered ball is involved, as Well as receiver cups into which the ball is to be selectively deposited upon manipulation of a support handle or the like.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a device of the character stated in which the receiver cups are longitudinally adjustable upon their supporting handle.
It is a still further object of the invention to provide a game device of the character stated 15 which is simple of construction and amusing as well as requiring skill for the accomplishment of the ends sought.
Additional objects, advantages and features of invention will be apparent from rthefollovving description considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, whereinv Figure 1 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view of one embodiment of the invention. Figure 2 is a fragmentary top plan View of one 25 end thereof.
Figure 3 is a cross section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Figure 4 is a cross section illustrating a modied form of receiver mounting.
Figure 5 is a side elevation thereof. Figure 6 is a longitudinal sectional View vof a further modification of the receiver mounting.
Figure 7 is a cross section on the line 'lf-'I of Figure 6.
Figure 8 is a detail side elevational view of the receiver retaining means.
Attention is first invited to Figurev l wherein there is shown a support member I0 Which may be of any suitable shape and length and upon one 4,0 end of which there is xed a hand grip i I, Whereby the rod may be actuated in a manner presently to be described. v
The number lll in the present instance is shown as a flat and rectangular bar, as seen in top plan,
and has a pair of longitudinally extended slots` I2 and I3 separated by a solid portion I liposithe cup there is a screw stud 2U of a length projecting through the slot I2 for reception of a thumb nut 2|. .Fixed to the stud 20 there is a retainer plate 22 comprising lugs `23 slidably disposed in the slot I2.
From the foregoing, it Will be seen that the cups I8-I 9 may be adjusted to a desired position along respective slots by merely loosening the thumb lnut 2l, and then tightening the nut after adjustment has been obtained.
In Figures 4 and 5 the `rod I0 is shown as a channel bar, the slots I2l and I3 being formed in the vertical Walls thereof. In this instance, ythe stud 24 comprises a lateral lug 25 adapted for slidable movement in one of the slots, While the opposite side of the stud 24 projects through the. other slot and receives a thumb nut 26. Tighten-v ing or loosening of the nut' 26 obviously permits longitudinal 'adjustment of the receiver cup.
In Figuresl 6, '7 and 8 a further modification of the device is shown and in this form the rod is illustrated as a rectangular tubular sleeve, one
Wall of which is provided with a plurality of longitudinally spaced aperture 21. The cup in this instance has a rectangular tubular sleeve 28 of a size freely slidable upon the rod, and further has a leaf spring 29 fixed thereto. The free end of the spring 29l has a pin 3D for registry with respective apertures 21 for securement of the receiver cup upon the rod. l
lIn use, the device is grasped by the handle Il and given an up and down swinging motion, imparting movement Vtothe ball I'I. At the time the ball is in the air, the operator directs the device in a manner to catch the ball in one of the cups. Obviously, this Will require practice and considerable skill, as well as a quick eye, but after a time it will be found to be quite easy, and in order that an expert may still find amusement, the positioning of the cups may be varied, presenting lan entirely different gauge of distance,
etc. Or, one of the cups may be placed closer to the anchorage of the ball, and thus arranged, the problem of catching the ball in the cups will require a still different manipulation of the device for each cup. y
While I have shown and described preferred constructions, this is by Way of illustration only,
and I consider as my own all such modifications as fairly fall within the scope claims. c
I claim: Y
l. In a device of the class described, an elonof the appended gated support member having a pair of oppositen plate having lugs for sliding-engagement in respective slotsa nut on the threaded stem for engaging the underside of the support member, a
strand member anchored to the support member intermediate of the slots, and a ball member secured to the free end of the strand complemen- .tal to respective cups.
2. In a device of the character described, a support member having a pair of slots, a receiver cupassociated with each slot, said cup members eachhaving a stem extended through respective slots, means on the stems for clamping the cups in an adjusted position of movement along the slots, a strand member anchored to the support member intermediate of the slots, and a ball member secured to the free end of the strand.
