Description
Nov. 14, 1939. l s.- EAVTON TOILET KIT Filed Jan. 7, 1939 )Il nml/1111 Patented Nov.. 14, 1 939 UNITED STATES PATENT ori-ica Warren S. Eaton, Los Angeles, Calif.
Application January 7, 1939, Serial No. 249,793
13 Claims.
. 'I'his invention is a toilet kit of the type embodying a container creasing for carrying and housing a tooth brush and adentifrice. .4
It is an object of the present invention to ems body the tonotkit in suon form and proportions as to enable thecarrying of the device in a pocket of the clothing, as for instance, a vest pocket, and
. to enable the convenient introduction and removal of the tooth brush, and also the convenient charging of the dentifrice into the kit and the convenient discharging of the dentifrice therefrom and to the bristles`of the tooth brush.
A further object of the invention is to provide the maximum .charging opening for the dentifrice compartment of the kit so as to enable the con-v venient introduction of a dentifrice in either loose powdered form, or in a tubular container. y A further object of the invention is to provide for Ventilating and draining the toothbrush com- Vpartment, and in this connection to effectually prevent the access of moisture from the tooth Y' brush compartment into 'the dentifrice compartment.
Y With these and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts,.as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it of course being understood that' `Figure 5 is a detail sectional view on the line 5-5 cf Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary sectional view of another modiiication.
, The embodiment of the invention as shown in the accompanying drawing includes a .tubular barrel creasing I of suitable cross sectional shape, preferably that illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing. A longitudinal partition 2 divides the barrel or casing into a dentifrice compartment 3 and a tooth brush compartment d. As shown in Figure 1, the bottom of the tooth brush compartment y4 terminates short of the open bottom of the barrel or casing I, and has a downwardly and outwardly inclined bottom wall 5 extending downwardly from the partition 2 to the adjacent side Wall of the barrel or casing. The outer-wall of the tooth brush compartment 4 is provided with a series of perforations 6 to aord proper ventilation forl the compartment, one of the perforations being vlocated at or adjacent. the bottom of the compartment to provide for drainage. 'I'he dentifrice compartment 3 is closed at its upper end by an end wall I which covers the compartment 3 only, the top of the compartment 4 being open for the introduction and removal of the handle of the tooth brush. I
The top surface of the end wall 'l may beinclined downwardly towards the partition 2 so as to afford drainage into the open top of the tooth `brush compartment 4, thus providing for the escape of moisture into the compartment I, from which it may discharge through anyof the perfo-k -rationst A suitable cap 8 may be provided for closing the open bottom end of the barrel or casing I. said cap having an annular flange-9 of a diametm` to have aslip joint fltupon the bottom of the casing I. To hold the cap against accidental displacement, the flange 'thereof is provided' upon its inner face with'a stud orprojection II) designed togbe received within a seat or socket Ill in the barrel I. The interengaged p artsIIl and Ill are preferably located in the vshorter transverse axis of the barrel or casing. and the material ofthe latter is such that the side walls may be forced towards one anotherV to release the s eat or socket Il from the projection I0 and thus permit ready removal of the cap or closure 8, while at the Y same time effectively holdingthe cap or closure in place. p
A tubular cap I2 is provided for-the top o f the barrel or casing I, said cap having a'socket and projection I3 and vI4 interlocking engagement with the casing to hold the cap against accidental displacement and to permit ready removal of the cap in the manner described for the bottoni elo--l sure member 8.
As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the stud or prof.. jection ,Illl is carried by aftongue portion IZ'Lde-` iined by a pairsof substantially parallel slits-I3(l formed in the cap I2 andvintersecting the lower edge thereof, thereby providing a springor resilient tongue such'that the projection Iii will be snapped into and-maintained in the seat I3 and the tongue may be sprung outwardly to Withdraw Athe projection from lthe seat and vthus'perinit lo. a
ready removal of the cap. This cap I2 of course has a slip joint nt upon the Itopl portion of the barrel or casing I and the parts are proportioned so that the outer end wall of the cap is spaced a casing I so as to accommodate the head or bristle end of thetooth brush. Perforations I5 are provided inthe cap I2 so as to afford ventilation and thus provide for the drying of the bristles.
It is proposed to embodythe present invention in a form and size comparable to that of a fountain pen so that it may be carried conveniently in a vest pocket, and the cross sectional shape of the barrel or casing I is somewhat elliptical, as shown in Figure 2, so as to give adequate cross sectional area to the dentifrice compartment. 3, and at the same time permit the barrel or casing to` lie relatively flat against the body of the person carrying the toilet kit.
It will be understood that-the compact nature and proportions of the present device enable the carrying of the toilet kit of the present invention in any form of luggage carrier and render it handy under any and all conditions of use.
A slight modification has been shown in Figure 4 of the drawing, wherein the partition wall 2 extends clear to the open end of the barrel or casing I and the cap or closure 8 is provided with an opening I6 communicating with the open bottom of the tooth brush compartment 4 so as to efert drainage through the cap or vclosure 8..
In Figure 3 there has been shown another modication wherein a holder clip I'I is shown secured to the top closure cap I2 at the upper end of the clip, the remaining portion of the clip being free from the cap and the barrel or casing l and extended downwardly a suitable distance below the cap I2 for the purpose of holding the kit in a pocket of the clothing in the'well known manner. This spring clip "is provided -with-n stud or projection I8 which normally lies in regis-` A tered openings I8 and 2II.in a sidewall of the` cap I2 and the barrel or casing I, thereby to hold the cap in place. By withdrawing the free end of the spring clip a suitable distance.y from the barrel o'r casing, the stud or projection `I8 may-be withdrawn from the opening2|l in the barrel I so as to permit ready removal of the cap I2.
When the cap I2 has been removed fr om either of the forms of the device as shown in Figures 1 3 and 6, theopening in the side wall of the barrel or casing I will be free and unobstructed and provides a discharge opening for powder contained in the compartment 8.
In Figure 6 there has been shown a slight modification wherein the cap I2 is not provided with a projection, the cap being heldin place by the frictional gripping of the cap around the barrel or casing. The cap of course extends below the` discharge opening I8 and closes the same when the cap is in position upon the barrel or casing.
The. cap or the casingor both may be. transparent, whereby the presence or absence of the tooth brush and the dentifrice may be readily ascertained. This transparent feature lends itself to advertising display as well as to the 'con-- venience of the possessor of the kit in-noting-the presence or absence of the toothbrush, the presence or absence of the dentifrice, and the amount thereof. A l
While the present invention lends itself to the use of a loose powder dentifrice contained in the compartment 8, and the open .en'd of the compartment has been given the-maximum areagin order to facilitate the introduction' of a powder,
it will of course be understood that a tube of dentifrice may be contained in the compartment 8.
