3 Claims. (01. 158-117) g The present invention relates to gas burners of circular plate 6, in. threaded union therewith, the type which is used in kitchen stoves and. though the plate 5 may be, if desired, secured in particularly of the type of gas burners which cany other manner, as y brazing the e, or it not be extinguished by liquids being spilled on m y be m d ni ry therewith. In accordance with this invention, a feed pipe gas W e ow into the p 8 and through is provided with an upwardly directed burner openings I2 into a chamber it between cap 8 end. Below the top of this end a plate is secured and p a 3 and thence Out the Opening M around which cooperates with a downwardly directed the burner, when it is lighted. Any liquid or 30 flange on a cap which is screw-threadedly atother material similar thereto will, if spilled on tached to this end of the feed pipe above the the dome 9, drop from the flange it free of the plate and defines, with the plate, a gas outlet opening M. This opening it may then be adopening. The cap extends laterally beyond the justed for the particular grade of gas being fed, downwardly directed flange in order to protect whether natural gas or carbureted water gas. through, and. Having now described our invention, we claim:
Fig. 3 is a detail section through the edge of the 1. A gas burner comprising a feed pipe, the 45 burner cap. burner end of which is upwardly directed, a plate In the burner shown, a gas feed pipe I is consecured to said upwardly directed end, and a cap nected to the gas supply pipe 2 by a valve 3 01 member vertically adjustable on said upwardly conventional structure. The burner end 4 of the directed end, said cap having a downwardly difeed pipe is upwardly directed. In the construcrected flange to cooperate with said plate in defln- 50 tion shown, the feed pipe and its upwardly diing a gas outlet opening therebetween, vertical rected end are unitary, though within the broad adjustment of said cap member varymg the size scope of this invention this feed pipe may be an of said opening, said cap member extending latassembly of conventional fittings. The end 4 is erally beyond said flange to direct liquids spilled screw-threaded as at 5 and is provided with a on said burner away from said opening, said cap 55 extending continuously and imperviously about the end of said feed pipe from the edges of the flange defining said opening.
2. A gas burner comprising a feed pipe, the burner end of which is upwardly directed, a plate secured to said upwardly directed end, an upwardly directed circular flange on said plate spaced outwardly from said end, and a cap member in screw-threaded union with said upwardly directed end, said cap member having a downwardly directed circular flange to cooperate with the flange on the plate in defining a gas outlet opening between said flanges, and said cap member extending laterally beyond said downwardly directed flange to direct liquids spilled on said burner away from the gas outlet opening, said cap extending continuously and imperviously about the end of said feed pipe from the edges of the flange defining said opening.
3. A gas burner comprising a feed pipe, the I burner end of which is upwardly directed and .outlet opening between said flanges, and said cap member extending laterally beyond said downwardly directed flange to direct liquids spilled on said burner away from the gas outlet opening,
' said cap extending continuously and impervious- 1y about the end of said feed pipe from the edges of the flange defining said opening.
