Description
Oct. 17, 1939. A BULQVA 2,176,786
WATCH MOVEMENT Filed DeC. 22, 1958 Patented Oct. 17, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application December 22, 1938, Serial No. 247,286 In Switzerland January 17, 1938 4 Claims.
The present invention relates to watch movements where the frame possesses at least one bridge adapted to hold in place three wheel staffs. In Watches of this kind the staffs of the three 5 wheels are usually pivoted in jewels set all in the bridge for holdin-g the same. This is the case for instance in many fancy watches where the intermediate Wheels are mostly concentrated towards the center and are pivoted in the plate of the same bridge. But it has been proved that the assembling and individual setting of cap jewels in the same bridge and particularly the dismounting and remounting when cleaning or repairing the Watch presented serious difculties.
The invention is characterized in that the bridge intended to support the three wheel staffs is provided with a milling into which is fitted a plate carrying in settings the three cap jewels for the said wheel staffs.
The annexed drawing shows, as an example, an embodiment of the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a rear view and Fig. 2 a section on line II-II of Fig. 1 and on an enlarged scale.
The represented embodiment is a fancy watch type where an intermediate wheel bridge I is adapted to hold in place the staffs of the escape wheel 2, of the fourth wheel 3 and of the third wheel 4. This intermediate wheel bridge is fastened as usual to the plate by the screws 5 and is provided near the center with a trefoil shaped recessed milling 6 into which is fitted a steel plate 1 of a similar form attached at its center to the bridge I by means of a screw 3. Inside of each of the leaves of the trefoil plate 'I is set a jewel 9 intended as thrust bearing for the staff of one of the three wheels held by the fmishing wheel bridge. 'Ihe mounting and dis- 40 mounting of the movement is very much facilitated, since it suflices to screw fast or to unscrew the central screw 8 for removing or for replacing in one operation the cap jewels of the three wheelfstaffs. In order to facilitate the removal of the jewel-carrying plate and to give it a more 5 aesthetic appearance the outer surface of this plate projects slightly over the upper face of the intermediate wheel bridge and has a slanted edge. It will be understood that the recessed milling and the jewel-carrying plate may have 1G any suitable form for supporting the Wheel staffs and may be applied also to other bridges supporting three staffs or to other staff combinations.
What I claim as new is:
l. In a watch movement comprising a bridge 15 plate carrying the cap jewels of three wheel staffs and in combination, an additional plate having the three cap jewels set thereinto, the plate of the bridge intended for said three wheel staffs, said plate having a recessed milling to 20 receive said additional plate and a fastening screw at the center of this additional plate and adapted to maintain the same within said recess.
2. In a watch movement according to claim 1, 25 where the bridge carrying the cap jewels of three wheel staffs is the bridge of the three intermediate wheels, escape wheel, fourth wheel and third wheel.
3. In a watch movement acccording to claim 1, 30 where the recessed milling is trefoil-shaped and the additional plate has a similar form fitting into said recess, each leaf of the trefoil carrying one of the three cap jewels.
4. In a watch movement according to claim 1, where the additional plate fitted into the recess slightly projects over the surface of the bridgeplate and has slanted upper edges.
