Filed Sept. 17, 1937 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 wayzm ATTORNEYS Patented Oct. 10, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a boiler construction and more especially to steam boilers.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a boiler of this character, wherein a 5 large surface of heating area and a quick circulation of water due to the construction of such boiler are had, the boiler in its mounting and in its assembly being novel.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a boiler of this character, wherein the water tubes are concentrically disposed and are of a unique shape exteriorly of the boiler cylinder, these tubes being in row formation and are subjected to the products of combustion within 15 a combustion chamber created in the boiler jacket.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a boiler of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and effective 20 in operation, assuring perfect combustion and maximum steam generation, strong, durable, and
inexpensive to manufacture, being economical in fuel combustion.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the features of construcion, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through a boiler constructed in accordance With the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a sectional View on the line 3-3 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a detail sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, A designates generally a boiler constructed in accordance with the invention and involves a boiler jacket I preferably made from the requisite insulating material and of cylindrical form creating interiorly thereof a combustion chamber I I and such jacket is vertically disposed.
Located interiorly of the combustion chamber II is a cylindrical boiler body I2 closed at its top and bottom and having centrally located therein a flue I3 which opens through the top and bottom while the jacket has built therewith an outlet chimney or flue I4.
Formed exteriorly with the boiler body I2 at diametrically opposite sides thereof are radially extending hanger pipes I5, these being passed laterally through the jacket I0 exteriorly thereof and have separably fitted thereon without said jacket closure plugs or caps I6, these pipes I5 being usable for boiler drain and water returns if desired.
concentrically about the boiler body I2 is a row of spaced sinuous tubes I'I, each at opposite ends carrying fittings I8 welded, brased or otherwise made secure in the body I2 and establishing communication between the latter and the said tubes for water circulation, the tubes in their shape being substantially of V contour and are of the required number depending upon the amount of heating surface required in the row arrangement of such tubes. These tubes I'I'cir- 'culate the water within the boiler body I2 from the bottom to the top thereof and thus make the boiler heat very rapidly while the boiler body I2 and the tubes being built in the manner before stated assure an all-exposed heating surface directly to the hot gases in the combustion chamber II.
Leading from the top of the boiler body I2 is a steam or water outlet I9 while as usual built with the boiler body and its jacket I0 is a water glass 20 and a pressure gauge '2I, respectively, these being of standard construction.
It may be found desirable to supplement the tubes I! by one or more additional rows, there being fragmentarily illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawings one of these tubes 22 which in the row is adapted to be disposed concentrically to the boiler body I2.
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and manner of operation of the boiler will be clearly understood and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed is:
A boiler of the character described comprising a jacket forming. an internal combustion chamber, a boiler body disposed within said combustion chamber, a plurality of sinuous tubes concentrically arranged about said body between the same and the said jacket, being spaced from each other, the said tubes being of substantially V-contour and are'disposed in row arrangement about the said body, substantially L-shaped fittings arranged at opposite ends of said tubes, receiving the same and opening into the body, hanger pipes arranged opposite each other and leading outwardly from communication with. the body through the jacket to without the same, closure plugs removably fitting the free end of said pipes exteriorly of said jacket, and a fluid outlet flue leading from the top of the boiler body through the top of the jacket.
