a Be it known that I, ALBERT W. BAGH- MANN, a citizen of the United States residing at Laporte, county of Laporte, State of ndiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Heaters for Furnaces and the'like, of which the following is a specification. f-
This invention relates to improvements in water heaters for furnaces and the like.
My improved water heater or boiler is designed to be suspended within the firepot of a hot air furnace or a hot water or steam boiler, for supplying hot water to hot water systems such as are used for heating or for domestic purposes. V I
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide a device of the type de-' scribed which may be supported ina-firepot in position sothat fuelmay be heaped around and upon the same and the side walls of which are so constructed as to pro vide a plurality of fiues causing efiective combustion around the heater and also-tend ing to direct the heat currents thereto and also to provide a very large surface for the conduction of heat.
Second, to provide an. improved water heater adapted to be disposed in the firepot of a furnace, which is ofsmall dimensions and at the same time of very large capacity and very eflicient.
' Third, to provide an improved heater of this type which is adapted to be mounted in the most convenient positlon accord ng to the particular furnace or firepot in which it is to be installed.
Further objects,-and objects relating to -.structural details,
will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claim.

In the embodiment shown in Fig. I the pipes are arranged through the door frame and along the fire door passage of the furnace, their outer ends being connected to the tank 12.

In Figs. IV and V the heater is shown arranged on its side and, 'while it is effective as a heater arranged in this relation, it is particularly desirable when arranged as shown in Figs. I, II and III.
The adaptations illustrated indicate that my improved heater may be located and connected to meet particular requirements, but is most efiicient when located in the firepot below the fire line or so that the fuel ma be heaped about the same, as shown in igs. I, II and III. The special advantage of'providin-g the pipe connections on the extended flat wallof the enlargement 5 and the boss 7 is that it permits the heater to be tapped on the side and on the top, making the heater adaptable to any kind of water connection, and at the same time it eliminates all air pockets within the heater bod The presence of such air pockets won (1 necessarily diminish the water-receiving capacity of the heater.
My improved heater is compact and at the same time of large heating capacity. I have illustrated such adaptations thereof as I believe will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt my improvements as may not shown, which the circulating pipes may assume in applying the heater in place. In other words, there are seven distinct ways in whichthe heater may be mounted in connection with the cold and hot water pipes, differing in this respect from anything now on the market.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a structure of the class described, a water heater adapted to be arranged in either a vertical or horizontal position withina fire pot, comprisinga hollow body formed of a single piece, said body having approximately flat end walls, one of which is formed with a pair of spaced openings for the connection thereto of either ipes or plugs, and side walls formed of a p urality of-longitudinal hollow ribs disposed in a circular series to provide narrow flue spaces between the ribs, and another longitudinal hollow rib of greater width and diameter than the other ribs and ofi'set therefrom .at one side and having its outer wall provided with a pair of'openings for thegconnection thereto of either pipes or plugs, said openings being located near the top and bottom of the body, theinner one of the two. openings inthe end wallbeing located at dne'end of the body where the plurality of hollow 'ribs are rovided and substantially in the center of said ribs, the other of said openings being provided at the end of the rib of greater width and diameter and adjacent to the top opening therein, water circulating pipes ma be connected to the body in a pluralit 0 different ways and air pockets within the heater body are eliminated.
