' IMPROVEMENT IN THE MANUFACTURE OF PLOW-STANDARDS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 217,481, dated July 15, 1879 application filed September 5, 1878. f

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS C. PINOKARD, of Opelika, in the county of Lee and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Manufacture of Plow- Standards 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a view, in perspective, of a plow illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a view of one of the sections of which the standard is composed, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank from, which the sections are made previously to welding them together at the point of the foot.

This invention relates to the manufacture of standards for plows; and the novelty consists,

first, in a blank of the uniform width laid off, then cut diagonally into two parts, and at the same time perforated at the ends; and, sec- 0nd, in the improved bifurcated plow-standard The sections 0 are now put through the second operation of bending and forming or shaping, as shown in Fig. 2. The sections are welded together at their lower ends or points to form a crossbar, thereby uniting the sections together to produce a plow-standard, H, which shall straddle the plow-beam, substantially as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

The standard H is adj ustably attached at its rear end to the beam by means of a bolt, I), fastened through one of the perforations a. Notches or shoulders at are formed on the front edges of the standard H to receive and sustain the plow. A single bolt is employed to secure the plow and cotton-scraper L to the standard, the bolt passing through the opening between the side arms of the standard, and secured at its rear end by means of a nut, f.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A blank for the manufacture of plowstandards of a uniform width, slitted at each end in the direction of its length, perforated on each side of said slit, and cut diagonally into two parts or sections, substantially as described. V

2. As a new article of manufacture, a plowstandard composed of the two sections G 0, connected together at their lower ends, substantially as shown and described.
