This invention relates to a housing with telescopic beams.
The object of the invention is the production of a housing with telescopic beams, and the outermost beams when extended adapted to support various objects such as mirrors, by means of which a rear view of the head or other portions of the body of the user or of other objects may be easily viewed.

Referring to Figs-1 to 11 inclusive the invention comprises rectangular shaped housing 20, having the side walls 2|; the top wall 23 and the bottom Wall 24 with the longitudinal openings 2B. A central longitudinal wall 29 divides the housing 20 in two parallel operating chambers 30. It will be noted that the housing 20 is a single unit.
For each of the chambers 30 is provided a telescopic rectangular supporting beam 3|, each having a bottom wall with a longitudinal opening 32.
A pin 35 extends from the bottom wall of each supporting beam 3| and extends into the adjacent longitudinal opening 26 of the housing 20.
In each of the supporting beams 3| is positioned a telescopic rectangular supporting beam 40, which has extending therefrom a pin 42 that projects into the longitudinal opening 32 of the adjacent beam 3|. Each supporting beam 40 has integral therewith and at right angles thereto the member 45 one longer than the other, each having the circular head 46 having the opening 41, and the stop lug 48 having the ends 48a and 48b projecting therefrom. To each of the heads 4B is pivoted an arm 59 which has integral ther-ewitli the circular head 5| having the opening 52. The head 5| has extending therefrom the stop lug 53 having the ends 53a. and 53h, which Y coact with the ends 48a and 48h of the stop lug 48. The heads 46 and 5| are connected to each other by the pin 56 having the head 5l' and the threaded shank 58 with the nut 59. A hood 63 encircles the pin 56 between the head 5| and the nut 59. A helical spring 65 in the hood 63 bears between the head of said hood and the head 5| to maintain the latter and the head 46 in tight operative position.
A supporting tube 10 is slidably supported on each of the arms 50 and to its lower end is secured a clamping collar 1|. A set screw 14 with the operating head '|5 is in threaded engagement with the collar 1|, by means of which each tube 'I0 can be longitudinally and rotatively clamped in different positions to its arm 50.
At the upper end of each of the tubes 10 is supported a receptacle having the body portion 80, and to the latter is hinged a cov-er 8|, having'the locking clasp B2. In the body portion is secured the compact 83 and over the latter is detachably positioned the usual pad 84. In the cover 8| is fastened the mirror 85.
To the bottom wall 24 of the housing 20 is fastened a clamping device designated in its entirety by the numeral 90. The clamping device comprises the lower horizontal arm 9|, which is fastened to the bottom wall 24 of the housing 2li.A The vertical arm 95 of the clamping device having the eye end 96 extends from the arm 9|. The angle shaped locking arm 9'! having the latch ends 98 is hinged to eye end 96. A lock 99 extends from one of the side walls 2|.
To one of the supporting beams 40, may be detachably secured a magnifying glass designated in its entirety by the numeral |00.
The said magnifying glass comprises a ring |0| having a lens |02 supported therein in the usual manner. From the ring |0| extends the plug |04 and from the latter extends the tube |05. At the lower end of the tube |05 is fastened the collar |09. A set screw I2 with the operating head l I3 is in threaded engagement with the collar |09. A stem |20 is shown with the lower lateral projecting portion |2|. From the latter extend the spring clamps |22 which bear against the side walls of the adjacent supporting beam 40.
When the supporting tubes 10 with their appurtenances are swung at right angles to the supporting beams 40, as indicated in Fig. 1, the end 53a of the stop lug 53, bears against the end 48a of the stop lug 48. When said tubes 'l0 With their appurtenances are swung down to their co1- lapsed positions, see Figs. 3, 4 and 5, the end 53h of the stop lug 53 bears against the end 48h of the stop lug 48.
When the supporting tubes 'i0 with their appurtenances are swung to their collapsed position, the angle shaped locking arm 91 is swung down so that its latch ends 98 enter the lock 99 wherein they Will be clamped in the usual way. To disengage the locking arm 91 from the lock 99 a key is inserted into the lock and turned which releases the latch ends 98 in the usual way.
When the appurtenances oi the housing are in their collapsed and locked position, the tubes 'I0 with their appurtenances are in locked engagement above the housing 26, and the supporting beams 3| and D are locked in said housing.
It Will be noted, see Figs. 3 and 4, that each pair of supporting beams 3| and 9 collapse with the housing 28 at opposite ends thereof.
To use the invention the tubes 'i9 with their appurtenances are positioned at right angles to the beams lill, and the user holds the housing 25 in position so that the tube lil adjacent to the magnifying glass is adjacent to the face of the user, and the other tube le is adjacent to the back of the head of the user.
Referring to Figs. 12 to 16 inclusive the hous ing and its appurtenances are indicated to comprise the rectangular shaped housing |39, having the side walls 43|, the top Wall |32 and the bottom wall |33, producing the operating chamber |34. The bottom Wall |33 is provided with the longitudinal opening |35. For the chamber |34 is provided the telescopic rectangular supporting beam |38, having a bottom wall |55 With the 1ongitudinal opening |4|. A pin lli? extends from the bottom wall |45 and projects into the longitudinal opening |35 of the housing |39.. In the supporting beam |38 is positioned the telescopic rectangular supporting beam |53, having a bottom Wall with the longitudinal opening |52. A pin |53 extends from the bottom wall |5| into the opening |4|.
For the supporting beam |58 is provided the telescopic rectangular supporting beam |60 having the bottom wall ||5| with the longitudinal opening |62. A pin |63 extends from the bottom wall |5| and projects into the longitudinal opening |52 of the beam |55.
A telescopic rectangular supporting beam |19, has extending therefrom the pin that projects into the longitudinal opening |62 of the supporting beam |69. At the outer end of the supporting beam is again shown the member 45 at right angles thereto. To the member 45 is again pivoted the arm 53 as already described. The supporting tube 'it is again Supported on the arm 50. The receptacle 85 with its appurtenances is again indicated for the tube 15.
From the other end of the housing |30 extends a member 45a similar to 45. To the member 45a is again pivoted the arm 50. The supporting tube 'l is again supported on the arm 50. The receptacle 80 with its appurtenances are again indicated for the tube TEE.
The housing |30 is again provided With the clamping device 95 as already described.
Attention is called to the fact that in the modification shown in Figs. 12 to 16 that the supporting beams |38, |58, |63 and l'lll collapse with housing |35 at one side thereof.
It will be noted that the longitudinal openings in the bottom walls of the operating chambers and the bottom Walls of the supporting beams, provide means to maintain the chambers and beams clear of dust for their efficient operation.
Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exemplications are to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
Having described my invention I claim:
The combination of a housing having a pair of operating chambers, a supporting beam telescopically supported in each of said chambers, a series of telescopic supporting beams coacting with each other and with the supporting beam of each chamber, an arm adapted to carry an article such as a mirror pivoted to the outer end of the outermost supporting beam of each series of beams, a clamping device comprising an arm fastened to the bottom wall of the housing, a vertical arm extending from the rst arm, an angle shaped locking arm hinged to the vertical arm and having latch ends, and a lock extending from the housing coacting with said latch ends to lock the said arms to said housing, when said beams are positioned in the chambers of the housing.
