Description
Patented Aug, 29, 1939- Germany, assignors to I. G. Fax-benlndustrle Aktiengesellschatt, Frankfort on the- Main,
Germany No Drawing. Application May 19, 1937, Serial No. 143,483. In Germany Mar-ch 20, 1937 8 Claims. (Cl. 91'-68) Our present invention relates to a wrapping material and more particularly to an improved wrapping material for goods sensitive to light and air.
One of its objects is to provide a process of producing such wrapping material. Further objects will be seen from the detailed speciflcation following hereafter.
It is known that the access of air and the 19 action of light, particularly ultra-violet light, damage the durability of goods of various kinds. For this reason, in packing goods such as articles oi food, books, textile goods and the like, there are used protective casings of paper, regenerated cellulose, superficially saponifled cellulose acetate, gelatin and the like, which by saturation with a solution of aesculine or quinine sulfate have been made impermeable to ultra-violet light without detracting considerably from the transparency of 0 the casing to non-injurious light so that the packed goods can be seen through the packing. Such packings, which are particularly suitable for use in show windows, automatic machines and the like, have, however, the disadvantage that the substance which absorbs the ultra-violet light is easily removed from the packing by moisture, so that the protective casing loses its power of absorbing ultra-violet light under action of moisture and the packed goods are liable to be con- 0 taminated with the substance that absorbs the ultra-violet light when they contain moisture, for example foodstufls. V
This disadvantage is avoided or minimized according to the present invention by using, as the substance that absorbs the'ultra-violet light and is to be incorporated with the packing material; 1, 3, 5-triazine derivative. Among the 40 I (carom-( f derivatives of 1, 3, 5-triazlne there is a large number of bodies which, when incorporated with paper or regenerated cellulose or the like, lends sheets made with this material the property of absorbing ultra-violet light without essentially 5 coloring the sheet. The trlazine derivative becomes so intimately united withgthe paper fiber .or other sheet material that on treatment with.
