The invention relates to the construction of electron tubes or electronic valves of the kind intended preferably for operation on very short Waves, so-called ultra short waves.
Devices of this kind are known whose chokes are contained in the vacuum vessel in order to avoid that there are between the system of electrodes or the oscillatory circuit and the choke, conductor pieces not choked out, or to provide for such conductor pieces to be as short'as possible, in order that they do not share anyhow in the oscillations. In these devices the choke is Wound on a glass stud fitted to the glass pinch by melting. The system of electrodes is fastened to the free end of this stud.
The invention proposes to support the system of electrodes by means of the high frequency chokes and to protect it from. shocks in. this Way. This will be advantageous especially in the case of very short waves, because variations in the distances between the electrodes, that is, variations such as occur in consequence to shocks acting on the tube, interfere with the operation I of the tube the more efii'ciently the smaller the wavelengths, i. e., the higher the frequency.
One embodiment of the invention is described hereafter as employed with a triode adapted for use with brake field connections, so -called Barkhausen connections, although the invention is applicable also to electron tubes of other construction.
The drawing is a somewhat diagrammatic repsentation of a longitudinal section of this embodiment.
Two chokes I, 2 arranged within the glass vessel 3 are at one end squashed in the glass press 4. The system of electrodes is a cylindrical arrangement in which the grid forms part of a tube Ill while the anode forms part of a tube ll, so that tube I I is arranged to encircle tube I coaxially. Such an arrangement is adapted especially for the operation on very short waves. The tubes [9, ll constitute a Lecher Wire system with distributed capacity. The mode of action of this arrangement need not be specified here. In the middle of the system of electrodes the cathode 5 is disposed. The cathode is elongated by rods 6, l on which insulating discs 8, 9 are carried. By means of these discs the tubes I0, I l are secured in their mutual position. To the discs 8, 9 condensers l2, l3 may be fitted for terminating the Lecher wire system; on the shokes I, 2, these being included in the heating circuit, that is, connected with the cathode 5. The chokes are active in electric relation, namely as a high frequency choking means, and are active also in mechanical relation by supporting the system of electrodes resiliently.
Electronic valves of this construction may be arranged to admit of disposing the chokes l, 2 in circuits different from the heating circuit.
What is claimed is:
1. An ultra short-wave electron tube comprising in combination a plurality of concentrically disposed tubular members, insulating means supporting said members in spaced relation, a filamentary cathode disposed axially of the inner tubular member, said members and said cathode forming an electrode structure, and lead-in wires for said electrode structure comprising free resilient coils which constitute the sole supporting means of said electrode structure, said means comprising both high frequency choking means and means for protecting the electrode structure against mechanical shocks.
2. An electron tube according to claim 1, wherein the electrode system. embodies a Lechersystem for the oscillation generation.
3. An ultra short wave electron tube comprising a system of electrodes, high frequency choke coils carrying said system and forming the sole support thereof, and means supporting said coils for free movement thereof, whereby said system is protected from shocks.
4. An ultra short wave electron tube comprising a system of electrodes, high frequency choke coils carrying said system and forming the sole support therefor, means supporting said coils for free movement thereof whereby said system is protected from shocks, and elements within said tube connected to and forming with said electrodes an oscillatory'circuit, said elements being likewise supported by said choke coils.
