The more specific ob-jects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawings illustrating an operative embodiment.

Referring specifically to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate likei or similar parts, the device has a base or platform at I0 made up for instance of four cross elements II and I2, in mortised relation. Over which a plywood panel I3 may be fastened. Standards I4 and I5 rise from the base and are connected at the top by a cross member I6. The longitudinal frame members II extend beyond the upright I4 and a panel or shelf I1 is secured thereto. On the base I0 and against the upright I4, a jogging wall I8 is fastened.

Said members II and I2 are fastened together by Vertical rods I9 on which nuts 20 and 2l are threaded, in combination with interposed washers 22, as shown. Said rods extend through openings 23 in the bridge or cross piece I6 and sleeves 24 also pass through said openings 23, surrounding the rods I9 and slidable thereon and resting on cushioning coil springs 25, surrounding the rods I9 with their lower ends resting o-n the nuts 2I.

to a coupling 28 and inserted' with sliding fit into a coupling 21. Said couplings are slidably 'adjustable on the sleeves 24 and are secured in adjusted positions by means of screws 28', for instance of the wing type. In order to forcibly' lower the clamp means and particularly the cross member 26, nuts V29 are screw threaded lto the upper portions of the rods I9 and such nuts may be handwheels, wing nuts or take any other preferred form.

At the rear of the device, a Vertical jogging wall 32 is suspended and pivotally mounted by means of hinges 33 having horizontal axes 34. This jogging member may be secured in vertical position by any desired latch means as at 35 consisting of a lever 36 carried by the wall 32 and co-acting with a keeper 31 carried by the base.

Said jogging wall 32 may hold in place behind it when desired as in Figure '1, an angular bracket 38 carrying a heating element 39, pivoted at 4I on a horizontal axis to the base, the same being adapted for energization from any suitable source of electric supply. It will be realized that the bracket 38 is displaceable so that when it is not desired to use the heater, the Wall 32 may be swung upwardly and the bracket then swung downwardly into the position of Figures 1, 2 and 4.

In the use oi the device, the piles, pads, tablets or the like as suggested at A are disposed on the base or panel I3, and jogged against the wall I8 and the wall 32, which it will be realized are at right angles to each other, and will effectively align the various sheets o-r ele-ments. The adjustable cross member is dropped so that the clamp face rests on the pile and is locked in position by means of set screws in the couplings. Thereupon, the members 29 are operated so as to depress the clamping mechanism against the tension of the springs 25, the head 30 directly engaging the pile, pads or tablets A as shown in Figures 3 and 1 Thereafter, the latch means at 35 may be released and wall 32 swung outwardly and the heating pad 39 swung upwardly and disposed between the wall 32 and pile A and the heater 39 energized, so that the heat will facilitate drying or setting of the binding material, adhesive or cement. The edges of the pile when exposed by the wall 32 may be coated with the adhesive or other binding material necessary to secure the pile or piles of sheets together.

A can of the adhesive or ported on the shelf I'I and a brush for applying it may be suspended from a hook 42 fastened to upright I 4 over the shelf I'I.

When the pile, pads or the like A are nished, the set screws in the couplings are loosened and a knife blade is forced between the face of the clamp and top of the pile to disengage the clamp from the pile after which members 29 may be loosened, and the springs 25 will thereupon urge the clamping means upwardly to release the pile or members thereof.

Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall Within the spirit and scope of the invention.

I claim as my invention:

1. An` apparatus of the class described having a base, jogging members on the base, clamping means on the base for material engaged with the jogging members, one of said jogging members being displaceable to permit the application of binding material to a pile, heating means adjacent the displaceable jogging member, and movable bracket means on the base mounting the heating means for displacement and against which the displaceable jogging member is disposable to hold it in operative position.
