LETTER CARD Filed Jan. 31, 1938 John Doc:
Baltimore, Md.
Patented Aug. 8, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a new and useful letter card and has for its object to provide a letter card that is self-sealing when folded for mailing and which can be easily opened-after being sealed. A further object of the invention is to provide as much writing space as possible by adding an additional leaf within the card, a portion of which may be used as a souvenir card and which can be detached when the card is opened.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of the parts and combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the letter card in the open position, a portion of the inner sheet being broken away.
Figure 2 is an end view of Figure 1 showing the card partly folded.
Figure 3 is a similar view to Figure 2 showing the perforated edge of the inner sheet torn off so that the gummed surfaces can be brought together when the card is folded.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the card after being sealed and ready to be mailed.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, and in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, I designates the outer sheet and 2 the inner sheet of the card which is secured to the inner surface of the outer sheet adjacent the line of fold. The outer sheet i is provided on its inner surface with a summed surface 3 around its entire edge and has a fold line 4. One-half of the outer card I is scored or perforated at 5 and is provided with an elongated slot 6 along said perforations i and adjacent the line of fold. The elongated slot 6 affords an opening in which a knife, or letter opener, can be inserted to out the card on the line I so that it can be opened after being sealed. The inner card 2 has one-half cut away around three sides thereof so that it will fit within the summed edges 3 and the other half of the inner card 2 projects over the that the gummed surfaces be sealed and is perforated at 1 so that the said edge can be torn ofl when the card is ready to be sealed in order that the summed surfaces will come together when the card is folded which completely seals the card. The smaller half of the inner card 2 is provided with perforations I so that it can be torn on after the card is opened in the event that this portion is used as a souvenir its line of fold, said inner sheet having one-half.
thereof contracted to lie within the summed edge of one-half of the outer sheet and the other half of the inner sheet projecting over the summed surface of the three sides on a gummed surface outer sheet and perforated on line with the inner edge of the of the outer sheet so that it allow the gummed surfaces of of the outer sheet to come together to seal the card.
