-A further object of the invention is to provide a container of the above type wherein the bung closure is provided-with an inwardly extending bead andwherein the pouring spout is provided with means engageable with the bead for rotatably and removably attaching the pouring spout 'to the closure in order to dispensethe contents of the container.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a container of the above type wherein the bung closure is provided with an inwardly extending bead and wherein the pouring spout is provided with resilient means adapted to 'engage. beneath the bead on the bung closure for rotatably and removably attaching the pouring 'spoutto the closure. I I I The above and other objects of the invention ,will in part be obvious and will be hereinafter more fully pointed out.

Referring more in detailto the accompanying drawing,and particularly toFigures 1, 2 and 3, one form of" the'invention is shown :for' purposes h of illustration. In this form 'of the invention there is shown a container having a cylindrical body portion Ill to which a can end H is secured by 'the usual double seam l2. It is to be clearly understood that the body portion of the container may be-of any desired configuration. The canend is provided with an upstanding neck includes a vertical wall portion l4 and a bottom permit the projecting portion portion l3, extending around the edge opening therein.
A'cup-like or bung closure is provided for the filling opening in the can end, and this closure of a filling wall portion 15 which is illustrated as being disposed within the body portion of the container. The vertical wall portion it is shaped, as at Ma, to overlie and engage the neck portion it on the m can end. 'It is to' be understood that the closure may be secured to the neckportion It in any suitable manner. The vertical depending wall portion [4 on the closure is' provided with an inwardlyv extending bead which is spaced from the bottom wall [5. The inward head it provides a flange for removably attaching a pour! ing spout in a manner to be hereinafter-more fully pointed out. The bottom wall iii of the 010- sure is provided with a scored portion which may I be punched through to provide a dispensing opening i'l.
A pouring spout i8 is constructed so that it may be removably and rotatably attached to the closure. The spout i8 is provided with adispensing portion or pouring lip i9 and with a depending-cylindrical wall portion-20. The depending cylindrical wall portion' 20 of the spout is provided with a sealing portion 2| for cone. trolling the opening in the bottom wall i5 of the closure. The vertical wall portion 20 of the spout I8 is provided with an outwardly extend- -ing peripheral projection 22 which is adapted to fit beneath the inward bead IS on the closure so as to removably and rotatably attach the pouring spout t6 the closure. At spaced intervals the vertical wall portion 20;- of the spout is provided with slots '23 -whi'ch open at the bottom edge thereof. These slots 23 "provide spaces which or bead 22 to contract when the pouring spout is forced inwardly 40 oroutwardly' of the closure. The depending wall portion 20 of the pouringspout is of a diameter less than the diameter of the vertical wall portion M on the closure. f When the container has closure seamed thereto, the pouring spout I8 may either be attached directly 'to the closure, or it may be, furnished separately for subsequent attachment thereto when it is desired to open the I container by punchingthe opening I'I so-as to dispense the contents thereof. In attaching the spout to the closure, the depending wall por-- tion 20 of the spout is forced inwardly of the. closure. The slots23 on the depending wall pertion of the spout permit the projecting portion been filled and the ,4
- in the bottom wall ii of the closure. when, how-- ever, the spout is rotated to the position shown in Figure 2, the sealing portion 2| is out of register with the opening ll so that the contents of the container may be dispensed. When the con tainer is empty, the spout II can be removed i'rom the closure and used again with another container of the same general type.
In Figure 4 of the accompanying drawing, there is shown a modified form of pouring spout. In this form of the invention the bung closure is secured, as at Ma, to the neck portion II on the container end ll. As previously described, the vertical wall portion ll of the closure is provided with an inward. bead l6 which is spaced upwardly from the bottom wall I 5. The bottom wall I is provided with a'scored portion which may be punched through to provide a dispensing opening H. The pouring spout l 8a is provided with a pouring or dispensing lip Ma and with a depending cylindrical wall portion 20a. The pouring spout is also provided with a bottom wall 2| a which is provided with a dispensing opening 24. The vertical wall portion 20a of the pouring spout 18a is provided with an outward peripheral projection or bead Me. At spaced intervals the vertical, wall portion 20a of the spout is provided with a plurality of spaced slots 23a which divide the outward bead 22a'into a plurality of resilient holding portions. The slots 230 are closed at the top and bottom thereof and extend through the outwardly projecting portion 22a. The wall portion 20a of the spout is also provided with a slot 23b opposite the pouring lip l9a and this slot opens at the top of the wall portion so as to aid in assembling the device.
In attaching the spout Ila to the closure, the vertical wall portion 20a of the spout is forced inwardly of the closure so that the outwardly projecting portions 22a of the spout will engage beneath the bead IS on the closure for removably and detachably securing the spout to the closure. In one position of the spout, the dispensing opening 24 will be in register with the opening ll in the bottom wall l5 of the closure so that the contents of the container may be dispensed. In another position of the spout l8a, the dispensing opening 24 in the bottom wall thereof will be out of register with the opening I! in the closure so that the contents of the container will be sealed. The slots 23a provide spaces which permit the outwardly projecting portions 22a to spring inwardly so that the spout can be attached to or removed from the closure.
It is to be clearly understood that minor changes in the details of construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1..A container comprising a body portion, a container end secured thereto and having a filling opening, a closure for the filling opening having a depending side wall extending into thefilling opening and a bottom wall having a scored por-' tion adapted to provide a dispensing opening, the side wall of said closure having an inward bead spaced above the bottom wall thereof and below the filling opening in the container end, and a pouring spout having a substantially vertical depending wall portion extending within the inward bead on said closure and having at the lower edge thereof an outward bead fitting snugly between the bottom wall of said closure and the inward bead on said closure, the side wall of said pouring spout and the outward bead thereon being provided with spaced slots whereby to eficct 'resilient engagement between the outward head bead'spaced above the bottom wall thereof and below the filling opening in the container end,
and a pouring spout having a substantially verticaldepending wall portion extending within the inward head on said closure and having at the lower edge thereof an outward bead fitting snugly between the bottom wall of said closure and the inward bead on said closure, the side wall of said pouring spout and the outward bead thereon being provided with spaced slots open at the lower end thereof whereby to effect resilient engagement between the outward bead on said pouring spout and the inward bead on said closure, said pouring spout having a sealing portion extending inwardly from the outward bead,
thereon for controlling the dispensing opening in the bottom wall of said closure.
