Description

Patented June 20, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application August 26,
1 Claim.
The invention relates to an antislip device for use on footwear and more particularly to ice creepers.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the same involves a minimum number of parts and is susceptible of removable attachment to the sole of a shoe so as to enable a firm tread to be had upon ice, being usable in snow to avoid slipping during the act of walking in the use of such device.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the same will hold firmly to the shoe or the like and avoids possibility of accidental slipping when treading ice, snow or the like even when walking on slippery, wet pavements.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and effective in operation, durable in its make-up, easily and quickly attached to and removed from footwear and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and 30 pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of an article of footwear showing the creeper constructed in accordance with the invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of such footwear.
Figure 3 is a front elevation Figure 4 is a perspective view of. one part of the creeper.

1938, Serial No. 227,009
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally a portion of an article of footwear such as a shoe, being of usual construction, having the sole 5 While B denotes generally the creeper constituting the present invention and hereinafter fully described.
The creeper B comprises a pair of tread blocklike members 5, each substantially square in contour and having an outer serrated tread surface "I. These members 6 are of uniform size with respect to each other as well as width and thickness.
Formed on the outermost end of each member is an outwardly, upwardly and inwardly curled hook 8 constituting an attaching cleat engageable with the edge of the sole 5 of the footwear A. At the inner end of each member 6 is a medially split coupling bail or loop 9 for fitting within a casement Hi, one at each end of an elastic strap or coupling band H which functions to exert a tension on the member 6 when coupled together and engaged with the sole 5 of the footwear A by the cleats 8 so that said device will be firmly held engaged in this manner. The coupling strap or band H is relatively thin when compared to the member 6 and these are susceptible of biting contact with ice when worn by the footwear A so as to avoid accidental slipping, the device being usable on wet surfaces and in snow.
The strap or band it is of a character to withstand moisture and to have lasting qualities.
What is claimed is:
An attachment for a shoe having a sole, comprising a pair of members, each formed with a serrated outer tread surface, cleats at the outer ends of said members and engageable with the sole, split bails at the inner ends of said members, and an elastic band having separable connection with said bails and exerting tension on said members for holding the cleats engaged with the sole of the shoe.
