2 Claims.
This invention relates to a two-part snap clasp which is adapted to attach two pieces of fabric to each other and which also has other uses.
Among the objects of the invention are to simplify snap clasp structures in certain particulars and also to provide a structure of this kind which will be adapted for a greater variety of uses.
A more specific object of the invention is to provide a fastener of the type stated which is formed to be impaled upon a wooden or other like support for the purpose of securing garment or other article to such a support.
Still other objects, advantages and features of the invention may hereinafter appear Referring to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates what is at present deemed to be a preferred embodiment of the invention,

Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line 3-3 of Fig. 4 is a fragmental vertical mid-section of a modification of the invention, showing the same on an enlarged scale in order to illustrate certain details of construction more clearly.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the female 30 member of the clasp comprises a disk l@ having a hollow dome shaped central portion Il and a peripheral flange l2 which is curled over inwardly a sufficient distance to retain a sinuous wire spring lli which serves as a means for detachably retaining the female member in its secured position in relation to the head l5 of the male member.
Said spring i4 has an arcuate central portion i6 rebent inwardly at each end at l1 and thence continued as a substantially straight intermediate run i8 which, in turn, is rebent at I9 and thence continued as a substantially straight terminal run 2Q, said terminal run being longer than said intermediate run i3. When the male and female members are united to each other the runs 2i] of the spring I4 are substantially parallel.
The dome portion Il! of the female member has diametrically opposite segmental slots 25 out through its basal portion, said slots being sufciently wide to permit the terminal spring portions 26 to grip between them the neck portion 26 of the head of the male member, just below the annular shoulder 30 resulting from the circumferentially outswelledportion 21 of the head (Cl. 2li-108) i5. Said head is furnished at its top with a point portion 23 adapted to pierce readily through fabrics to which. the clasp is applied.
The neck of the male member upstands from a basal disk 29 around and beneath which extends a backwardly bent flange 3i).
In 2, `superirriposed sheets 3l and 32 are shown secured together by the clasp.
ln Fig. 4 the neck and head of the male member of the clasp is shown on an enlarged scale in order to illustrate more clearly certain details included in the invention. In this view the head i5 is shown having an angular peripheral extremity 33 above which is the conically concaved pointed portion of the head and below which is the annular slightly convexed shoulder 2l. The convexity of said shoulder causes an additional initial resistance to be offered to withdrawing the two members of the clasp from each other in opposition to the spring I4, but causes a quick release to occur as soon as said spring has passed the most outswelled part of said oonvexity.
The conically concaved shape of the head of the male member slenderizes the pointed portion thereof and causes good initial penetration thereby of any fabric which it may be used to puncture, followed by an efficient widening out of the hole made by the point, The neck 26 of the male member is somewhat tapered so that its basal portion is materially greater in diameter than its outer portion, thus adding to its strength and making it easier to manufacture.
In the modification shown in Fig. 4 an impaling member 35 is shown, which has been inserted from the interior of the female dome Il through an aperture 36 provided therefor through the top of said dome. Said impaling member may be a nail, screw or tack. It has a head 3i the diameter of which is greater than the diameter of the aperture 36. Said impaling member is shown having in its headed end portion a central recess 38 which is sufficiently deep and narrow to guard against the point of the head of the male member becoming blunted. Said impaling member 35 is shown penetrating a support 39.
The male member of the device is shown provided with a set of apertures 46, and the female member with apertures l i through which stitches or other fastening means are passed to secure the two parts of the clasp to garments or other articles.
I claim:
1. In a snap structure, two separable members,
one a male member and the other a female member, said male member having a head carried by a neck portion and said female member having means to resiliently grip said neck portion adjacent to said head, said head having an annular convexly shouldered portion directed toward said neck to offer additional initial resistance to the separation of the two members of said clasp and a quick release as said gripping means passes over the outer part of said convexly shouldered portion, said gripping means consisting of spring Wire portions transverse to the axis of said neck positioned to bear laterally against said neck and shouldered portion.
