Description

Patented June 13, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The object of my present invention is the prothe recess is designated by the reference numeral vision of a simple, inexpensive, and useful needle threading device.
To the attainment of the foregoing the inven- .tion consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the drawing, accompanying and forming part of this specification:
Figure 1 is a View partly in elevation and partly in section of one embodiment of my invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevation of the same.
Figure 3 is a plan view of a modification.
Figure 4 is a detail view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring first to Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing it will be noted that the device comprises a wooden member in the form of a spool and designated by the reference character ID. The member of spool form ID is flanged at its ends ll,
and in one flange l l is provided a radial notch or recess l2 which extends to the periphery of the flange and between the inner and outer sides thereof and is closed at its bottom or end nearest to the longitudinal center or axis of the member.
A hook 115 has the heel end of its shank embedded and fixed in the fibrous material of the spool form member so that it extends radially from the bottom wall of the recess l2 and so that its bill or head is adjacent to the periphery of the flange l I though entirely Within the recess I2 so as to oiier no projection whatsoever from the member II].
In the modification shown in Figures '3 and 4 I211 and is essentially of U-shape in cross section being open at one side, and the open side being at the periphery of the flange. Also, the shank of the hook i3 is driven or otherwise embedded in the wood of the member lDa with the hook extending into the recess l2a, but not beyond the same.
To thread a needle, one end of the thread is passed around the end of the hook l3 after the 10 end of the hook has been passed through the eye of the needle. With the end of the thread thus looped about the hook and above the eye of the needle it will be obvious that upon removal of the needle from the hook the looped portion of the 15 thread will pass through the eye of the needle thus threading the needle. As the end of the thread passes through the eye of the needle, the thread may be drawn through the eye of the needle to the desired extent. 20
Having described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A needle threading device comprising an elongated handle forming member of fibrous material having a flange of substantially cylindrical shape 25 at one end thereof, said flange having a notch in the peripheral portion thereof which passes through the inner and outer faces of the flange, said notch having a straight bottom wall, a shank having one end portion embedded in the straight 30 wall and having a barb at its free end, said shank and barb being located within the recess;
