2 Claims. (Cl. 167-87) bination is odorless kerosene, and when the foregoing ingredients have been thoroughly mixed in tated, the oil will appear to have been dispersed,
but upon the standing of the combined mass for a short period of time, the separation will be complete. g
Alcohol and olive oil each have great virtue in hair tonics and lotions of various kinds, and it is highly desirable to provide both these ingreclients in such classes of goods.
Over a period of some years, experiments were made in an endeavor-to combine alcohol and olive oil into a basic compound having not only the inherent virtues thereof, but to constitute a vehicle for carrying other ingredients for the parts to be treated. The object, therefore, of the present invention is to combine alcohol and olive oil in a perfect mixture.
Another object of the invention is to provide an efficient hair tonic using combined alcohol and olive oil as a base. 7
Another object of the invention is to provide an efficient antiseptic skin lotion using combined alcohol and olive oil as a base.
Many liair oils now on the market contain castor oil, although some have been erroneously labeled as containing olive oil. Castor oil has an affinity for alcohol. Olive oil has not. In order, therefore, to form a combined mixture of alcohol and olive oil, it is necessary to introduce into the combination, some ingredient which will act to cut the olive oil into the alcohol. It has been found that kerosene introduced into combined alcohol and olive oil and agitated will permit the alcohol and olive oil to combine into a chemical mixture,
Taken as a base, the combined alcohol and olive oil, with its kerosene content, may be used for many purposes to which less effective mixtures have been formerly applied.
While no limitations are to be assumed by the following formula, we have found that a basic material may be produced "by using ingredients in the following proportions:
The kerosene most desirable for use in this comthe proportions stated, it will be found that the olive oil has been dispersed throughout the alcohol and even whenthe same has been left to stand for a period of several months, no separation has been apparent.
The foregoing base has been found to be of unusual value in the formation of hair tonics. ,The ingredients introduced into the base just described are castor oil and resorcin with just suiliture a pleasing odor.
' cient scent or perfuming matter to give the mix- When used as a hair tonic, it has been found that the following formula produces an efficient hair tonic, but this formula is given by way of illustration, and is not intended to constitute a limitation:
Alcohol gallons 100 Olive oil dn 35 odorless kerosene do 50 Castor oildo -20 Resorcinlbs 2 Perfume to suit.
Advancing from the mixture designated as hair tonic, it has been ascertained that antiseptic skin lotions of great potency may be produced from the base hereinbefore described. In the' manufacture of the antiseptic skin lotion it has K been found that the following formula produces a most efficacious lotion:
Perfume to suit.
The lotion just above described is given in terms of approximate amounts, and the appli cants herein do not limit themselves specifically to these amounts, but use this formula as illustrative only, and a formula which has proven to give desired results.
Both the hair tonic'and antiseptic skin lotion made from the base hereinbefore described have been subjected to many experiments and tests, and are recommended by medical authorities. 01! course, the alcohol and olive oil base herein described is susceptible of wide use apart from the hair tonic and antiseptic skin lotion herein described, and the hair tonic and skin lotion may be modified m vmoiu waye without departing 2.
