Description
April 181, 1939. H MOQRE 2,154,989
ATTACHMENT FOR GOLF CLUBS Filed May 21, 1937 IN VEN TOR.
1 BY 4 v T ATTORNEYSj Patented Apr. 18, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
My invention relates to attachments for golf clubs and has for its object to provide a device adapted to be carried by the handle end of a golf club which will enable a player to pick up a tee without stooping.
With the above stated object in view my invention consists in the golf club attachment hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side view of a golf clubhaving the attachment of my invention at its handle end.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1, but showing the golf club reversed with a tee held in the pick up attachment.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of this operating end of the pick up attachment, and
Figure 4 shows a tee engaged by the pick up attachment.
In the drawing l indicates the shank of a golf club. 2 indicates the head and 3 indicates the handle, these several parts being of any usual construction and forming no part of my invention.
4 indicates a tube of soft rubber adapted to fit onto or over the handle end 3 of the club with its upper end extending a substantial distance above or beyond the end of the club. Tube A is formed of yielding material such as soft rub- 30 her and is provided at its free end with a series of oppositely arranged openings so formed as to present a relatively large portion 5 with a narrow mouth 5 with jaws 5 and 5 6 indicates a tee of usual form engaged by 35 the jaws of 5 5 In use the golf club with its handle end down as shown in Figure 2 is carried to bring the end of tube 4 directly over the tee which has been caused to lie in a horizontal position. By press- 40 ing downward jaws 5 and 5 will yield sumciently to let a portion of the tee near its small end pass through the space between these jaws into the opening 5. The jaws will then spring back into position to grip and hold the tee. The club may then be reversed and the tee removed.
The tube 4 may be used on any golf club or on any similar club or rod.
While the device of applicants invention is shown and described as an attachment to be applied to a golf club as a means for picking up golf tees it is not to limit the invention to the particular use stated as the device may be used on any rod of suitable diameter and may be used as a pick-up for screws or any other article capable of being engaged by jaws 5 and 5 Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A tee pick-up attachment adapted to carry on the upper end of a golf club handle, comprising a tube of flexible material, one end of said tube adapted to fit over the said handle, the opposite end thereof having a plurality of substantially diametrically arranged openings adjacent its outer edge for holding tees, said openings having a relatively short, narrow channel leading from the said openings to the said outer edge for admitting said tees to the said openings.
2. A tee pick-up attachment adapted to be carried on the upper end of a golf club handle comprising a tube of flexible material, one end of the said tube adapted to fit over the said handle, the opposite end thereof having a plurality of substantially diametrically arranged openings adjacent its outer edge for holding tees, said openings being in such proximity to the outer edge of said tube as to communicate with the said outer edge through a small portion of its circumference, whereby the said tees are admitted to the said openings.
CHARLES HENRY MOORE.
