3 Claims. (Cl. 173-259) This invention relates to terminals, and with regard to certain more specific features, to wire terminals or connectors for use upon electrical apparatus such as fuses and the like.
Among the several objects of the invention may be noted the provision of a simple and economical form of wire terminal, holder, or connector which prevents undesirable destructive action on the wire when making a fastening. Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
The invention accordingly comprises the elements and combinations of elements, features of construction, and arrangements of parts which will be exemplified in the structures hereinafter described, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the following claims.

This application is a division of our application, Serial No. 63,098, filed February 10, 1936, for Fuse. The subject of the present invention is shown but not claimed in the co-pending application of Theodore Birkenmaier, Serial No. 133,565, dated March 29, 1937, issued as Patent 2,135,787
on November 8, 1938.
Referring now more particularly to Fig. 1, there is shown at numeral 33 a terminal support for a pin 35. The support 33 and pin 33 are parts of a fuse mechanism referred to in our parent application and it is the intention to make an electrical connection between said support 33 and a wire 21.
Provided upon the support 33 is a stud 43 which at its base is of a square cross section 44 (Fig. 3)
g and at its top is of a round cross section and threaded (Fig. 2).
A thumb nut 45 is threaded to the upper threaded portion of the stud 43 and is provided with a round counterbore 49 which clears the corners 50 of the square base of said stud to form a skirt 41. This skirt is. externally grooved as at 43. A washer 49 has ears 5| which are crimped into the groove 48. The washer 49 has a square opening therein. The nut 43 and washer 49 are relau tively rotatable but have no relative movement of translation. By this construction there is provided a rotatable nut 45 which is adapted to drive the washer 49 down on the end of the conductor 21 without rotation of the washer. The washer can slide on the square shank but cannot rotate, 5
while the nut can both rotate and move endwise.
There is relative rotary motion during adjustment between the ears 5| and the flange 53 but no relative longitudinal motion. Thus there is provided means whereby the ends of the component wires 10 in the flexible wire 21 only compress upon making a juncture, rather than twist and fray.
.In operation, after backing of! the nut 45, the wire 21 or its equivalent may be wrapped about the square shank of the stud 43. The nut 41 is then screwed down to drive the washer 49 against the wire to hold it.
The invention'has the advantage of attaining the desired end by means of a very simple structure.
It willbe understood that the purpose of the square shank 44 is to permit endwise sliding, but
to prevent rotation of the compressing washer 49. It will also be understood that other non-circular forms will produce this desired effect. 25
In view of the above, it will be seen that the several objects of the invention are achieved and other advantageous results attained.
As many changes could be made in carrying out the above constructions without departing 30 from the scope of the invention, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense. 96
We claim:
1. A wire holder comprising a stud having an unthreaded polygonal base and a completely threaded head, a nut threaded to said head and having a skirt surrounding said polygonal portion and rotatable with respect thereto, said skirt having a circular recess, a washer below said skirt, ears on said washer clinching into said circular recess, whereby relative angular movement is permitted between the nut and the washgs er but no relative movement of longitudinal translation, said washer having a polygonal opening therethrough of form similar to the polygonal section of said unthreaded base, whereby it may move to translate longitudinally on said base but 50 not to rotate with respect thereto.
2. A wire holder comprising a stud having a square base and a cylindric threaded head, a nut threaded to said head and having a skirt sur-' rounding said polygonal portion and rotatable u with respect thereto, said skirt having a peripheral circular and external recess, a washer below said skirt, external ears on said washer 3.
