Description
W. A. SNYDER KNEE PROTECTOR April 11, 1939.
Filed May 24, 1938 ATTO R N EYS Patented Apr. 11, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to knee protectors, and its general object is to provide a knee protector that is primarily designed for use while playing or shooting marbles, in that it not only includes shields for attachment to the legs of the player, in a manner to prevent casual removal or displacement thereof, and for amply protecting the knees, but also includes conveniently arranged pockets for the marbles, with means for retaining the marbles therein against loss therefrom.
A further object is to provide a knee protector of the character set forth, that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and extremely efiicient in use and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be here 'inafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my protectors in use.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one of the protectors, per se.
Figure 3 is a horizontal through a protector.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that I have illustrated a pair of protectors, one for each knee of the wearer, and each protector is identical in construction, with the exception that one is made for the right leg and the other for the left leg, so that the fastening means can be connected and disconnected on the sectional view taken I lateral outer sides of the legs, as will be apparent.
Each protector includes a body I, formed from any sheet material suitable for the purpose, such as leather, reinforced rubber or other waterproof material to provide a shield, and the body is of rectangular configuration of a length to extend a considerable distance above and below the knee of the wearer, as shown in Figure 1. The side edges of the body are notched as at 2 to facilitate bending of the knee and the notches are disposed above the transverse center of the body, as best shown in Figure 2.
Formed on the side edges of the' body below the hatches and extending longitudinally of the body from adjacent the notches but terminating above the lower edge of the body are relatively narrow, elongated extensions 3 of substantially rectangular formation and which are folded at their juncture with the body for disposal in face to face relation therewith and stitched thereto about the inner and lower edges thereof as at 4 5 to provide pockets 5, for receiving marbles, as best shown in Figure 3. The upper ends of the extensions 3 are rounded and left free with respect to the body to provide closure flaps 6 which are folded outwardly for normal disposal in open position, but are held in closed position by snap fasteners 1 having their companion members fixed to the body and flaps respectively, as best shown in Figure 2.
The protector is secured to the legs of the wearer by straps 8 having one of their ends secured to the body adjacent one of the side edges thereof and preferably on the inner surface, and tabs 9 secured accordingly adjacent to the opposite side edge of the body, the straps and tabs being connected together by snap fasteners ID. The straps and tabs may be formed from any material suitable for the purpose, such as leather, but the straps may be of elastic material or have elastic inserts therein, so that the straps will be adjustable for the protectors to fit legs of various sizes.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A knee protector for marble players, comprising a body formed from sheet material to provide a shield, said body being of elongated rectangular configuration and having notches in the side edges 40 thereof, elongated extensions formed on and disposed longitudinally of the side edges of the body, said extensions being folded along their juncture with the body for disposed in face to face relation therewith and being stitched along their lower edges and one of the longitudinal edges thereof to the body to provide marble receiving pockets having open upper ends and closure flaps therefor, said flaps being folded for disposal in normal open position, means for securing the 50 flaps in closed position and means for securing the body to the leg of the wearer.
