The rivets 28 hold the parts together. When the plugis plugged into, the cup (Figs. l, 2, 3', 4, and 5) the plug front I! forms a closure for the open front of the cup and covers all of the parts within the-cup, and thus debars access to the live parts within the cup.

the oil position of Fig. 5, there are provided, in the side walls of the cup i'our slots 3| with pairs thereoi designed to receive side edges of the plug blade ll. When the plug .is plugled to the cup, as in Figs. 3 and 4 the side edges 0! the I blade ride in the slots 8' nearer the contacts 2. and the parts assume the position of Fig. 3, with the blade end in the backwall openings 22, and with contacts engaged by contacts 24. On the other handwhen the plug is to beinserted 10 into the cup in the "oi!" poaition'ot Fig. 5, the plug is reversed 180 from the position 01 Figs. 3 and 4 to the position of Fig. 5 and plugged in; the side edges oi the blade then ride in the slots 35 at the end of the cup more remote from the II contacts 20, and the blade end fits into others oi the back wall openings 21; contacts 20 are not engaged by the contacts 24 and consequently a circuit through the switch is not established.
It will be observed that contacts 20 are pron tectedirom accidental contact, when the plug is removed and the front of the receptacle is open,
by the formations at ll, integral with the receptacle, and through 'a slot ll of which rides the blade I. and the contacts 24.
The extended or rear end I 01 the blade, as extended beyond the contacts 2|, cooperates with the walls of slot II to provide an arc snufling means for the contacts.
I claim: so
' 1. In a switch, a block of insulation having a deep slot'opening thereinto from the front thereoi, adjacent contacts in said block on opposite sides of said slot, a blade adapted to slide in said slot and having on opposite sides contacts for 35 engaging the block contacts, a iuse carried by said-blade and connecting the blade contacts.
2. In a switch, a receptacle comprising a cup shaped body having a deep slot opening thereinto from the bottom oi the cup depression in the o f-body, adjacent contacts in said body on opposite v sides 01 said slot, a blade adapted to slide in said slot and having on its opposite sides contacts which engage the body contacts whenthe blade is in the slot in "on position and which do not '45 otherwise engage the body contacts, the blade being formed aspart of a plug having a closure portion transverse to the blade and defining a I closure for the cup depression of the body when the blade is in the slot, the blade contacts being go behind the plug closure portion, and the body contacts being behind the plug closure portion so that when the blade is in the slot all contacts are concealed and inaccessible, the plug carrying behind the plug closure portion a fuse receiver the plug having a'handie in front of the plug closure portion.
3. In a switch, a receptacle comprising a cup shaped body having a deep slot opening thereinto from the bottom of the cup depression in the body, adjacent contacts in said body on opposite'sides of said slot, a blade adapted to slide in said slot and having on its opposite sides contacts which engage the body contacts when the blade is in the slot in on" position and which do not otherwise engage the bodvcontacts, the blade being formed as part of a plug having a closure portion transverse to the blade and defining a closure for the cup depression of the body when the blade is in the slot, the blade contacts in which is a fuse bridging the blade contacts,
being behind the plug closure portion, and the body contacts being behind the plug closure portion so that when the blade is in the slot all contacts are concealed and inaccessible, the plug carrying behind the plug closure portion a fuse receiver in which is a fuse bridging the blade contacts, the plug having a handle in front of the plug closure portion, the slot .being at one end of the cup depression, and theplug and body parts being so designed that the plug may be plugged into the cup depression in either one of two reverse positions, with the blade at an end of the cup depression, near or remote from the slot.
